By pure percentages, yes, your chances are decreased. And by the the fact the application didn’t land in the tier gaining acceptance also means your chances are decreased.

That said, getting deferred means you outperformed many of the applicants and will likely do so on RD as well. Add to that UMNICH clearly thinks you have a chance to get in, so that could also increase your chances. Even more, if scholarship athletes and others are admitted during EA, it shrinks the number of “open” spots, so that could increase your chances in RD in terms of acceptance percentage.

To answer the question, I agree with Knowsstuff that this information isn’t published so you can’t know the actual chances, it’s just not certain that the chances are decreased.

Same for me. OOS CS.

Yes

Well… I am not a math major… Lol… But in theory half the class is offered and accepted in EA. There are about 30,000 more applications in RD plus the EA applicants that now become an RD applicants. So less spots and more applicants… Your correct that scholarship kids are taken in EA.

I agree that about half the class is offered in EA, but my guess is Michigan’s yield rate among EA offers (most competitive applicants nationally) is lower than that of later admits. Who is more likely to accept, those for whom Michigan is a target/safety school or those later admits who say “OH MY GOSH I CAN’T BELIVE I GOT IN!”. That said, it’s pure speculation and I’m probably wrong.

D24 has that too.

It really depends on where they make the cutoff for deferals, which in the end is probably the crux of the original question: taking away the statistical elements, do they defer applicants who only have a strong chance of admission or is there a reason they might want an expanded pool so being deferred doesn’t hold a statistical advantage? Unfortunately, there isn’t data on the subject.

I see the postpone button too. Is it possible all of us just got deferred or is this what everyone is seeing?

seems like its what everyone is seeing

Does U-M only recalculate your GPA from HS classes? I did dual enrollment in HS.

I have a high school (4.0) and college (3.84) transcript. The 2 GPAs are totaled separately.

So, would U-M combine the two when they calculate or will they look at the HS GPA and give me my credits for my college credits?

I’m worried because if they count the 2 B+s as B’s, my GPA will drop to 3.79.

Are you talking about this page? Is that postponed button code on top? I couldn’t seem to find them
