University of Michigan Ann Arbor Early Action Fall 2024

We learned that all 3 of the kids from our High School ( one of them the valedictorian with a 1600 SAT admitted to UNC today ) who applied to Michigan early were all postponed to regular decision.

OOS Accepted
1590 SAT
4.0 gpa (no weighting at school but highest level classes)
LSA undecided
2 varsity sport captain, significant other leadership/involvement at school and community volunteering, great recs and worked hard on essays.

Were very relieved/happy at acceptance!! Such unpredictable admissions world these days that we were sure kid was going to be deferred. We understand the disappointment of so many exceptional candidates that were deferred - funny reaction from our kid on acceptance that may make you feel better - said must not really have been one of the very top candidates as got accepted rather than yield-protection deferral!

For the LOCI do I include why umich remains my #1 choice and make it personal or should it solely be to update the AO on any new EC or awards that happened during senior year so far?

Does anyone know how long it took for CS decisions to come out last year.

Does UM admit directly to a major at LSA? Or is the major declared in Sophomore year? Thanks.

Yes, by 2nd semester sophomore year. CS is the exception.

He was over the moon excited and shocked. Thought definite postpone. Also to note: GPA does not always tell the story. He had a less-than-perfect freshman year but has shown semester over semester increased GPA.
