University of Michigan Ann Arbor Early Action Fall 2024

Talk to financial aid. They are there to help you. Everyone’s situation is different. Good luck.

If you acknowledge this then you acknowledge that they “had business applying there.”

Agree to disagree and moving on.

My daughter was not asked for recent/current grades when she received her deferral status, while I see here on CC that others were asked. Is this a bad sign?

Makes no difference. They ask some people and not others. Means nothing. Just give them what they are asking for. If your not sure ask admissions. They also have a chat if their backed up today.

What does it mean to be postponed?

We have decided to postpone making a decision on your application at this time, and your application will be moved into our regular decision pool for consideration. We need additional time to review your credentials and determine how your strengths and academic achievements would fit with the composition and quality of this year’s first-year applicant pool.

Michigan is consistently ranked as one of the top universities in the world and, as such, admission is extremely competitive. Our application pool is large and acceptance of our admissions offers continues to increase. With a limited number of spaces, we are regrettably unable to admit all competitive applicants.

What should I do next?

Applicants who remain interested in the University of Michigan may do one of the following:

  1. Stand by and receive a decision by early April.
  2. Submit the Expression of Continued Interest (ECI) form no later than March 8. Type any updates or additional information that you wish to add to your application in a free-form format by logging into Enrollment Connect, navigating to the action items section, and clicking on Verify Continued Interest. The Expression of Continued Interest form is NOT required for consideration in our process. Furthermore, no preference is given for the order or date in which the form is received. Additionally, please note that we will only allow for a single submission of the Expression of Continued Interest form, and you will not have access to edit the form after it has been submitted.
  3. Contact your high school to have them send a Mid-Year Report showing any recent grades that are available before mid-February.
  4. Submit both the Expression of Continued Interest form and recent high school grade updates.

If you would like to submit additional information, our preference is to receive only the ECI form, grade updates, or any specifically requested information. Anything outside of this will not impact your final decision.

Check with your HS guidance counselor. It’s possible they already sent them in automatically.

So a few years ago there was a dad on here that said his daughter paid for all 4 years by getting both outside and department scholarships. Maybe she was instate to make it easier. I forgot which one’s she applied for but never heard of that on here before. So I guess it’s definitely possible but maybe a rare case??

I worked with a girl in telecommunication sales - she - hmmmm - danced her way through SDSU. And then quit our job and went back full time.

Whatever works for someone I suppose.

When there’s a will…

But most moneys come from the schools.

Still check your parents employers - mine gave both kids money ($2K and $1K, one time each)…and local scholarships - car dealers, rotary clubs, etc.

A google search should find low cost ones.

Well I am not talking about that… Lol. So my kids employers paid for their education since… I and my wife are the employers :joy:

But many religious groups, Michigan Alumni groups local to the student have scholarships, churches, unions, synagogues, many ethnic groups etc etc i
. It never hurts to ask. I see kids starting online Go Fund me. I wish my kids did that… Lol.

I know - it just made me think of that (from 1993) with your comment.

Yes, go fund me is all the rage!! For many things. So why not…

Did everyone in at LSA get an email today suggesting they apply to the honors college?

There’s a poster whose handle is something like The Bank of Mom and Dad.

If the shoe fits…

Yes I did! If anyone knows or has done the honors program, is it worth applying for??

My LSA droid received it (I’ll assume every admit did until an admit says otherwise) and is applying because why not. The thesis requirement doesn’t daunt.

Daughter waitlisted/postponed from UMich & Wisc (OOS). Got into all other great big ten schools she applied to. I know Mich doesn’t publish statistics on getting in after waitlisted, but I’m guessing it’s a long shot. She intends on doing essay on continued interest as Mich is dream school (her mom is an undergrad alumni also). First time going thru this process so just curious if she should hold onto the probably slim chance at Mich after waitlist or move on to her other top B10 school choice?

I’m super excited about getting accepted but tbh housing is stressing me out. My parents want me to live on campus but I struggle with anxiety + OCD so I would love some advice on housing. When can I apply for housing? What preferences should I put down to have the best chances of getting a single dorm in suite-style housing? I would also prefer substance-free housing if possible

Are you saying Waitlisted at Michigan? Or are you saying Waitlist/Postponed as the same term - they are not.

Big difference - a wait list at many schools is a rejection but some public schools do let people in. The issue is, you don’t know which major. But a Wait List is a hedge for the school unless not enough accept.

A postpone actually means - they’ve yet to act on her application. They are now in the RD pool.

With a Michigan, odds won’t be great - but there’s a big difference between the two.

A postponement is better.

In the last CDS (two years ago), Michigan offered 17K waitlist, 13K took it, and 68 were admitted (majors unknown).

Wisconsin offered 6449 WL with 4000 accepting and only 11 offered spots.

A postponement won’t have great odds - but much better.

The important thing to know is - they haven’t made a decision.

A WL - on the other hand, they’ve made the decision to reject.

So the perspective of moving on or not is a bit different.
