I will share that we paid $1300/month for an apartment my sons sophomore and junior years (The Yard-close to the stadium) and I am paying $1800/month this year (senior year) at The Foundry Lofts which is right near central campus.
I just Whats Apped with a current Junior doing her study abroad in Madrid that I am friends with the family and her. She said getting a sublease from the housing Facebook, Michigan sublease site is super easy. Fall housing is always challenging. But I love what she did. She was in a building and put flyers in mailboxes and found an apartment and committed when she needed to. Sometimes thinking out of the box works well…
Not always luxury, but lots of houses around central campus rent for 700 - 1000 / room (many are 4 to 6 rooms) per house. My two kids like the location and living in a student setting.
Need to be aggressive to secure one of these prime spots though as they go quickly.
My son received his yesterday. It was about what we expected. Enough to say that they offered something, not enough to actually go because no way, no how are we taking out student loans.
Oh, ok. I wi imagine my aid will be pretty bad since I’m out of state. I still haven’t gotten anything and submitted my css on time.
So there are many articles saying only like 50% of people so far applied for Fafsa this year. They are recommending no matter what you get to always appeal it especially for this year. https://www.cnbc.com/2024/02/14/amid-fafsa-issues-its-a-good-time-to-lobby-for-more-financial-aid.html
Thanks! Did your kids go through the UMich website to find their houses?
Anyone who applied regular decision have an option to upload a LOCI in portal?
No. Just hunting on their own dealing with the landlords. Be familiar with local housing ordinance - Ann Arbor enacted a couple years ago. Supposed to help students but landlords are very creative. Deals a lot with timing of leases and renewal options.
Inspired by a comment in another thread, I wanted to ask what if any type of programs does u Mich offer for new incoming students? Maybe a few days on campus before everyone else gets there? Hiking or similar trips in small groups? That sort of thing.
They will have on campus activities but your also meeting with your advisors to cement your schedule etc. You will walk through the fountain and when you graduate walk it again. Lol. They have ways to introduce kids to campus.
Thanks! So, some virtual stuff then a one-day program. Was hoping for more tbh, but I get at a school of this size too much more becomes unwieldy.
Is there a separate thread for Decision Pending at UMich?
There is an RD thread
Maybe someone more recent can answer but they had activities daily to get to know dorm mates, and such. They had fun…
Yes assumed everyone did?
But if you applied regular decision why would there be an option to upload a letter of continued interest? It makes sense that there is a way to withdraw an RD application but a way to let the school know you’re still interested? I’m not sure that would be necessary. If you applied EA and got deferred to RD then being able to submit a letter of continued interest makes sense.
Droids got the invitation to apply for the LEAD Scholars program. I assume everyone already accepted to U Mich received this invitation, but would be interested to learn otherwise.
My daughter was accepted into school of kinesiology and also received the invitation to apply for LEAD scholars.
