University of Michigan Class of 2023 - Deferred Applicants

More people are getting acceptance notification.

How do you know? Where do you see this?

@alwalw Where have you seen people getting notified during today? I have only seen a couple reports

Several acceptances have been posted on this thread today, and on the original EA thread and the RD thread. There are 3 threads being used to post acceptances, though the majority have been posted here.

Ross and LSA had a few acceptances posted.

Spring Break next week is for the students. I’m sure the admissions office will be open.

I still haven’t gotten any status update on my deferral but my friend got rejected so it’s not just acceptance in this wave I guess. Maybe this is widely known but for some reason I thought the decision waves were only acceptances. Idk if that makes anyone feel any better about not hearing but im still nervous that im just getting a delayed rejection

@kkuznets2000 Deferred EA and then accepted in early Feb. Was waiting to hear back from Ross. Hope that helps

so would it be safe to assume im gonna be rejected because I haven’t heard anything after deferral in December? OOS(NY) F 1470 SAT applied for kines, mov sci with good ec, rec letters, and essays

@nygfootball21 I’m also NY kinesiology waiting to hear back … fingers crossed for both of us

Does anyone have tabs disappearing at all? I am RD so no, just wondering of the possibility of an upcoming second wave today/tomorrow. Maybe just wishful thinking.

It’s possible that people are getting decisions later, but to me it just seems like they didn’t check their portal until later…

Does anyone know when the next wave will be. I heard there’s a new wave every friday.

@excalibur123 my decision tab is still up. Nothing new

There is likely 1/4 to 1/3 of all acceptances to go out by early to mid April.

Keep the faith

Patience

@J123D123 Is that true, it contradicts all the negativity I have read about not being notified yet? If so, that seems wonderful. 1/3 seems a bit hight though, as it would be that 4th ish wave.

@123Class2023parent I was not a captain for either of my two sports *-

@J123D123 I hope you’re right! (And I hope it’s not “early to mid April” but “late March”…) I’m also pinning my hopes on the idea that UM may still have 1/4 of their offers to make–and last year they made offers of admission to almost 16,000 of the almost 60,000 applicants, if I read the Common Data Set correctly.

My son’s also waiting to hear from several schools that are at least as competitive as UMich, but they’re also a lot smaller: If UMich still has 3-4 thousand offers of admission to make, that’s roughly the same as the total number of admits at Northwestern (around 3450 last year) or at Vanderbilt (3300 last year), and probably a lot more than UChicago (2300 last year).

All of which is to say that I’m still hopeful that UM has a place for my son (along with several thousand others), even if I can’t fathom why they haven’t already accepted a straight-A student with a 1590 SAT.

Last year, there were 15,468 acceptances. About 50% of those (8,000) were released in EA.

It’s just one person’s opinion, but now after two RD releases, which are similar in size to last year +/-, I don’t think here are another 4,000-5,000 acceptances still waiting to be released roughly around 3/29 and 4/19.

I truly apologize for being a Debbie Downer, but the 3/29-4/1 release last year consisted of more waitlists and rejections than acceptances. I posted the stats of that release many pages ago. This 3/1-2 release, yesterday and today, had 3 rejections, which didn’t happen last year in the same release.

Having said all that negativity, I sincerely hope you’re right. I want everyone here to be accepted. Go Blue!

Most of these large Universities with xx,xxx numbers of applicants are working day and night and there is another month of reviewing applicants. So between 25% and 30% is my guess. The extra allows them room to adjust over time based on pulled applicants and such.

Remain positive and patient people. The pool is equally smaller so your chances are about the same as any other Wave.

Um

I’m always the optimist and there is no actual number attached to either of these releases but a handful of posts here.

I stand by my numbers

I have been following this blog since late December. My son was deferred EA. His decision tab disappeared Thursday night, just before 9pm. His portal changed to acceptance just after midnight on 3/1.

@sushiritto Thank you VERY much for your posts and your insights. Your information has been invaluable to a significant number of parents that check this site on a regular basis. My son is a 4 year varsity wrestler who loves UM wrestling, so your post about PSU wrestling was very appreciated.
