University of Michigan Class of 2023 - Deferred Applicants

I think you mixed up UM with ND, @Acortez122 – the next date for UM is supposed to be not 3/19 but 3/29 (an eternal 16 days away). I can’t recall where the 3/29 and 4/19 dates actually came from, but those are the dates that have been regularly stated on this thread.

Here’s an new question (maybe):
My S never sent a LOCI but really does have UM at the top of his list. If by some miracle he gets into a comparable or better school–say maybe Northwestern–would it be a good idea or a bad idea to send a LOCI to UM before the next wave and mention it?

The estimated Fridays of 3/29 and 4/19 (and 2/1 and 3/1) release dates have occurred historically, with some exception(s). Also, coincidentally, Ross has published their release dates, which just so happen to be 2/1, 3/1, 3/29 and 4/19. Of course that doesn’t mean a “decision or two” can’t come out in between these dates, but so far this season, for the most part, I’ve only seen transfer student acceptances in between, not freshmen acceptances.

@TwoHearted I wouldn’t play off one school against another. If a LOCI is sent, then I’d just express the sincere wish to come to UMich.

@cdr2001 I chose to send my deposit in for another school while I wait for u of m. They told me I have to tell them by 5/1 to get the $200 back, but I’ve decided if I am offered the waitlist I will take it and lose the $200, which isn’t significant and definitely worth it (to me).

oh I see.
ND the 19th
UMich the 29th
BU and AU 22nd
and Ivy Day

Looks like a good list, @Acortez122. Good luck!

I’m hoping we get three answers this week:
MIT: tomorrow (pi day) at 6:28 pm
UChicago: Friday “late afternoon”
Swarthmore: Friday evening, I think

All three are reaches (for pretty much everyone), so I’m not super hopeful–but I’m still dying to get some answers. At this point I think I’d prefer rejections to waitlist offers.

Is it too much to send two LOCIs to reiterate interest?

is it pointless to have hope for kines at this point? I feel like decisions after this point would just be rejections.

I sent my mid year grades in Feb 15th (my schools finishes late plus a few snow days pushed it back) and I called the University to see if they had received them and they confirmed they have but have not updated it in the portal does mean they have not looked at my application ?

I’m reminded of a movie line from Shawshank Redemption, where Andy Dufresne says to Red (Morgan Freeman) “Hope is a good thing. Maybe the best of things.”

Continue to have hope. You guys got this.

@sushiritto thank you for sharing your knowledge and for keeping us hopeful throughout this entire process.

@sushiritto I have been saying that for months. As long as you have not been rejected you have hope, and a shot, even if (as I said and you did as well) it is a 1 in a million chance to quote Lloyd Christmas- you still have a chance.

Been keeping up with this thread for awhile but just made an account to share my results.
Accepted SMTD 2/15 for trumpet performance. I don’t think there was a big wave that day but my portal updated.

@joliemorgan As a parent of a UM student, my answer is a resounding NO. If you want to be one of the Leaders and Best, you need to do everything to support this goal. Good luck to all. I cannot speak highly enough of this amazing university and the experience that my freshman daughter has had.

@joliemorgan Do not send a second LOCI. It’s not going to increase your chance in the slightest, and it’s defintely just going to irritate them.

decisions tonight?

probably not

@joliemorgan
I think if it’s done with purpose and not in a “please accept me!” manner, a second LOCI will not be aggravating. I communicated my interests on a few separate occasions with my admissions counselor and was accepted in the Feb round! It may be a bit late now to send one, but as long as you aren’t overly pushy it’s not necessarily a bad idea.
