University of Michigan Early Action Class of 2019 Discussion

@collegeplease123 i think it is. They might do a large batch tomorrow or on Friday. Tomorrow is when the honors decisions are released so we may get something tomorrow.

Okay. At this point, I guess I’m indifferent. Assuming most of the acceptances were released :frowning:

Are engineering decisions released on the same dates as the honors LSA decisions?

Is that true-most acceptances for the class of 2019 have been made? I hope not!

@calspeed‌ I mean, we don’t know for sure, but maybe… It’s a depressing thought, though…

Wow, that would be devastating for my child. UMICH is the #1 choice.

Michigan is my #1 choice as well. Sorry to hear that about your son. We’re all in the same boat, but I just wish they would give us any response instead of making us wait for a long period of time… (I’ve heard letting rejected/waitlisted applicants know about their decision was of low priority, which rubs all of us the wrong way…)

Accepted LSA! Received the email yesterday. In-state.

i just wanted to make sure, we go to application status and if we had a decision, it would say “view decision” right?

That is correct, @S0U10H03‌. Unfortunately nothing for me…

still nothing for me. hoping for a giant wave this friday… idk i’m still optimistic. not necessarily for myself, but i think that there’s a significant amount of acceptances left. good luck to all of you in these next few days!

@collegeplease123 I think there are still some admissions to be announced this and next week. After that, it would be mostly rejection and waitlist if it is at the same pace as last year.

@billcsho‌ I remember you told me that there is a 90% chance that whatever decision we deferred EA applicants hear this week forward is either a waitlist or rejection? @calspeed‌ I’m just stating what his views were… Not necessarily mine

?? Confused by your statement

@collegeplease123 Considering the overall admission rate to be ~30% and assuming around 3/4 have been announced. There would be the remaining 7.5% to be admitted plus the 70% rejection/waitlist still waiting for the answer. So 90% chance for the remaining pool to be rejected/waitlisted.

But the tumblr page said that they have sent out rejections already.

@calspeed‌ This is what I was talking about.^

But that’s really depressing…

Questions:
Does our regional counselor have a large influence in our final decision? I know that they do look at the application because the UMich admissions website says:

“A Territory Counselor performs the second review. Each counselor is responsible for applications from a specific geographic region; this allows each counselor to develop a deeper knowledge of schools and school systems in his/her region. This staff member knows the applicant’s high school — in particular, the strength of the curriculum, how grades are earned and distributed, and what students can accomplish there. The counselor makes a recommendation for admissions status based in on this specialized level of knowledge.” (http://admissions.umich.edu/apply/freshmen-applicants/selection-process)

If we have had good contact with them, does it influence their decision in any way? I have been emailing my counselor since early October (not overloading them with emails, of course) and believe that we have had good contact.

Lastly, what information does the counselor “know” about our high schools and how do they get this information? I realize that if I was from a Umich feeder school they would have loads of info, but I am from a small rural high school OOS where I’m positive nobody has applied to UMich for a long time (if ever). I’m also somewhat worried about the communication between my UMich territorial counselor and my high school counselor, as he (HS counselor) isn’t very experienced in dealing with large university admissions. (Most kids at my school will just go to the CC or smaller colleges if they do extend their education.)

Don’t worry, just say S0U10 H03!!!
