University of Michigan Early Action / Early Decision Class of 2030 Official Thread

Does anyone know if they sent deferrals/rejections today? Or only acceptances?

yes, EA here (in state)

Michigan is definitely changing their rules. Congratulations!!

If you can put in if in /out of state. Major. Stats like unweighted GPA and act /sat.

This all helps us out.

Anyone finding the way Michigan is handling this year nonsensical? Why defer a kid ED only to accept them 2 weeks later? Makes no sense

Is it today only for Ross EA? How about LSA EA?

It makes no sense to me, either. But I will say that it’s kind of the best of all worlds for kids who got in today, as they had to wait only a couple of extra weeks for their acceptances—and now they’re not binding. They can wait to see where else they’re admitted and choose. So while I find it all a bit chaotic, it’s a pretty good outcome!

Agree, very interesting - what new information did UM receive/use to make these decisions now? As you say works in favor of students accepted under EA plan. Would be helpful if some transparency eventually becomes available.

There were a couple of LSA acceptances today posted a little up-thread

Are they EA or Deferred ED?

It validates what I had heard from a couple of reliable sources: Michigan did not have time to closely review all ED applications. They used ED to accept a small number of students (who met institutional priorities? Who knows?) then took the holidays to get through a bunch more apps.

So are we expecting additional EA decisions to randomly roll out all month?

ED is new so it might take them some time to adjust. But congrats if you got in. That is the point of all of this.

Wow - that would be super interesting if it turns out to be the case. I hope UM at least releases numbers on admission by plan. If they got bombarded with ED apps would certainly weigh in favor of this rationale.

it makes a ton of sense for ED applicants that were deferred (if they needed to buy time) but surprising that they included EA applicants in the release.

My son got in to LSA today after being deferred in December - OOS/Massachusetts - 3.95 GPA (unweighted) - 1480 SAT (did not submit).

Years ago they used to do these “Waves “. Seems like they’re back.

my daughter didn’t get anything and she applied EA. is there anyone who EA and hasn’t heard ?

My daughter didn’t receive any update either. She applied EA under LSA. Her portal is showing more decisions are on the way by 1/30.

By all accounts, only a tiny percentage of EA applicants heard anything today. They explicitly say that not hearing is not a reflection of outcome and to understand that decisions will be shared by January 31st.

This is just an initial “wave “. More releases by January 31st. Just hold on and enjoy the ride.
