Great outcome. Not required to attend and you can compare aid offers and acceptances. Be sure she relishes this. It’s big.

That’s what I am wondering too!

She is very excited! And thank you for the kind words!

It seems like maybe they didn’t have time to get to all the out of state kids before the ED deadline? Most of the ED acceptances I heard of were in state. This is actually a great outcome for those deferred who got in today because they only had to wait a couple extra weeks and now it’s not binding. We had a family friend who was ED deferred OOS and was accepted today.

Accepted OOS today - previously deferred from ED. LSA. Was an unexpected surprise.

My daughter got into LSA. She was deferred from ED earlier. OOS, 1520 SAT, 3.92 GPA (unweighted, wtd in 4.4 range, 14 AP courses, NMS, pretty good (imo) extra curricular)

Having scoped out a variety of sources, I am feeling like no decision today is generally a bad sign (despite the portal message that, “this is not a reflection of your pending decision
”). I hope I am wrong, but the odd rollout is not feeling good

It’s definitely odd. Makes me wonder if they have not even read the other applications yet or need to go over them again to make a decision. Or the EA decisions that came out today are applications they received earlier- so kind of like rolling basis.

I’m more cynical. I am not convinced that applications are reviewed in the order they’re received. I predict a lot of deferrals in future rounds (or round, singular). Nothing to do but wait and see. Good luck!

What do you mean “in the order they’re received?” Most non-rolling admissions schools review applications as a whole after the application deadline, so an August 1 Michigan EA app would not necessarily be read before an October 31 Michigan EA app. There shouldn’t be any expectation that they are read “in the order they’re received.”

Or do you mean that you don’t think that ED applications were read before EA or RD?

I was responding to the previous comment wondering if “the EA decisions that came out today are applications they received earlier- so kind of like rolling basis.”

So, yes, I was agreeing that EA apps are reviewed as a whole — not necessarily in the order of received — but almost certainly after ED. I was simply expressing skepticism that the EA decisions released today were based on the date the EA application was submitted. Totally guessing, of course. This is uncharted territory
 First year with ED, etc.

Yes, I agree! There are a lot of different process flows through which some EA may have been decided and some haven’t, but date of application is unlikely to have much influence.

Well, nothing makes sense right now because all the EA results were supposed to be released on the same day. Now we have ED deferred who heard back in 3 weeks and one possible explanation thrown around is that they didn’t get through all the ED applicants before. We see some EA results out with no explanation as to why only some were released weeks ahead of schedule. Did anyone who was not accepted for EA hear from them yesterday?

This is typical in the last 10 year’s at Michigan. Like it or not they make their own rules. The website says you will be notified prior to the end of the month. This is that. It never said all notifications come out the same day. Years ago they came out in waves. Looks like they are doing that now. At one point it was actually regional. Like West coast release then East coast etc. This year they decided to do it differently so some can get notified earlier. This is a positive not a negative. Some here won’t know their fate till April regardless when you applied.

Hold on since it can be a long ride and bumpy along the way.:thinking:

Guys when do you think they’re sending the rest of the decisions? I heard on TikTok a counselor saying he believes they might release today. What do you all think?

It appears like they maybe released in waves and one would never know which wave your application will fall into as we don’t know how they decided which ones to release.

Do you think it’s a bad sign if I haven’t heard yet?

They literally said that it means nothing.

Nope. Many EA will be deferred to RD just by the numbers applying and might not hear back till April. Hang in there
