@oliviags22 , thanks for the info. The timing makes me feel better. My D is high stats (in-state) and hasn’t heard anything yet. Guess we’ll keep waiting.
Also, FYI, I believe @carachel2 already has a student at Pitt and only visits these forums to see what’s happening and to kindly answer our questions/share information. I do not believe there was any intent to begrudge your scholarship and I’m sure many will be pleased to hear you have accepted. Congratulations and all the best!
I applied on 11/15 and my buttons changed either today 12/6 or yesterday, 12/5! So how long after your buttons changed did you guys recieve your official letter?
@carachel2 I can think of a couple reasons for the differences between this year and last. Their yield may have been less for those who were offered merit, leaving unspent scholarship dollars that were carried forward. Also, the markets are up close to 20% over last year. I’m not sure how Pitt invests it’s endowment, but it’s very likely that the performance of it’s investments are allowing them to release more funds this year. D 's SAT was too low for SCoE merit, so it’s not something that I’m all that focused on. It is nice to see a lot of students getting great merit though.
@carachel2 , you have been so helpful to so many of us, plus your high regard for Pitt has contributed to positive PR for the school on these boards. Your posting is a good thing.
@Kayak24 - I see that your D is in-state from your previous post. My S is also in-state with high stats but has not received any merit yet either. I have seen very few in-state merit scholarships given out. Do you agree? He applied for the Stamps and Nordenburg scholarships but those are tough to get. I had hoped to see more in-state merit posting with stats but almost all of the merit being reported here is for out-of-state students.
@dixie200 , I agree! I have seen very few instate merit awards. My D did not apply for the Stamps or Nordenburg. We are hoping for plain old merit. Good luck to your S and keep us posted!
I have only seen a few instate posts for merit scholarships (probably only 2 or 3) on this and the other Pitt merit scholarships threads. Not sure about chancellor invites. It really seems like they are focusing their offers on out-of-state students which is disappointing to all of us in-state families. I’m wondering if they are holding the in-state applicants and reviewing them all separately at a later date. Does anyone know if this was done in the past?
@MPT3D I have seen 2 in state scholarships (15K and full tuition) both with chancellor’s invite. Please note many haven’t stated in state or OOS and while I have semi stalked the Pitt threads, what I have noted is likely not all posted on CC.
I’m hoping for GAP, but I haven’t heard back about being eligible yet. (“Students meeting these criteria will receive initial notification of their eligibility to apply for the guarantee program by the undergraduate Office of Admissions and Financial Aid, and then be asked by the School of Medicine via e-mail to submit additional information in support of their candidacy.”)
