Applied mid October. Accepted October 31st in Swanson School of Engineering. Merit in mail Saturday November 23rd. ACT 35. Lot of ECs including tennis, musical program since 6th grade, piano for 10+ years, silver award for Girl Scouts, community service, etc. Well rounded.
We are grateful for this opportunity. She loved that the school is in the city. The basement of the engineering building looked like a playground. And puppy therapy on Tuesday night? That might have clenched it. lol.
Our student received the same letter from Office of Admissions and Financial Aid. Accepted 10/14/19. OOS. I am guessing that this letter is instead of merit aid and that no merit aid being awarded…
Thanks @TheVulcan! OOS Business Admin (already received Business Honors letter), applied 10/16, admitted video 10/28, GAP for business early November. National Merit Semifinalist, 4.0 unweighted, 36 ACT, 1560 SAT, 8 APs (+9 more senior year), top 4% in VERY competitive large public school in Texas, strong ECs with a focus on business/politics/current events. His essays tied heavily into family connection to Pitt (I used to work there, his father took some classes and worked there), so I think they were pretty strong Hope this helps!
I dug up a thread from 2017 where people report getting both this letter and a scholarship (back then a full tuition one was a possibility), so perhaps not all is lost:-)
This year only those that make Honors College and applied by November 1st will be able to apply for Chancellor Scholarship. This was discussed in a live feed on Facebook on Scholarship process Thursday November 21st. You can find the video on the University of Pittsburgh Admissions and Financial Aid page. It is very informative. I must say for those of you that have the test scores , GPA, have taken a rigorous curriculum and your essays were good be patient. It is tough when we read others have received but you have what it takes you will hear.
And yes everyone wants a quick answer but Pitt is not a university that decides based on numbers alone, which is a great thing, but requires more patience.
Some meditation and breathing can help get us through this process!!
My D/S got the merit award letter today- $15K/yr instate.
1570 SAT, 750 on math and physics subject tests, 790 on U.S History, lots of APs, top 3% in the class, good theater/music ECs. Applied to Dietrich 10/10, was admitted 10/24. Still waiting to hear from the Honors College.
I assume there is still a shot at the Chancellors, Stamp, and Nordenberg, no?
Visited campus in October and loved it. We live on the other side of the state, but I have family in the area.
My daughter got her acceptance email today! She applied for the dpt program which I am sure she won’t get into according to the minimum SAT requirements. Excited to see what she will get in the mail. So far so good 7 school options to date! There are some seriously smart kiddos out there!
