University of Pittsburgh Class of 2024 Official Discussion Thread

Yes my daughter keeps getting letters reminding her to apply. lol.

Got scholarship letter today, 10k/year OOS. The only essays I did were the two required honors college ones (did my hc app within my normal app), and the additional information essay as I thought the honors college essays were the same essays used to review for scholarships. Now I wonder if I would’ve gotten more if I did the other two essays lol. Oh well. I also got into GAP nursing a couple weeks ago.

I’m seriously SO happy to read about so many great IN-state merit awards.

Congrats to all!

Why nobody posts anything today? My daughter just sent the school the unofficial high school transcript. How many days should she wait now for a button change? Thanks,

My DC applied on Nov 13th and still waiting for the good news. Anyone else applied around this time and got accepted already?

Thanksgiving break at Pitt started for most students on Saturday. I am not sure when the offices close.
If the transcript went out yesterday, with TG break it will arrive sometime next week. Then they will need to review everything (assuming her test scores have arrived)
She might hear before Christmas and she might not.

It might take a bit longer over the holidays.

D applied Oct 31 and submitted SRAR Nov 7th. Still waiting patiently.

See the other thread about pitt moving away from merit aid to fund needs based aid. Wonder how that is really affecting the awards this year given that they seem to be below prior years.

What a shame that they did not announce this before application cycle…

Just found this CC thread. D applied on 10/6, received acceptance email on 10/17, received 15K/yr OOS, but so far still not received invitation for GAP Medicine. Does this mean she is rejected by GAP medicine?

Also, she saw the mobile portal ‘accept’ or ‘reject’ button. Does this mean she must click ‘Accept’ button now, in order to receive invitation to apply for GAP medicine?

D’s stat:
Unweighted GPA: 3.82, Weighted: 4.8, SAT:1530, ACT:35, School has no ranking. Strong ECs on medicine related research, internship, and volunteer.

@tangg2020
You do not need to click accept to get considered and receive the GAP supplement.

After admission, UPSOM sends out the application. Dont stress out. There are many applications for them to go through.

@tangg2020, congrats! When did the merit letter arrive?

@sammyGA Thank you! Their website says school of medicine will send the GAP supplemental ‘within 2-4 weeks of acceptance’… D was accepted almost 6 weeks ago. That’s why I guess she is out…Anyway, it seems she could do nothing but just stay waiting…

@TheVulcan Thank you! D received the merit letter on 10/30.

Seems like everyone that received merit got it pretty quickly after admission.

DS was admitted in early September with top stats (post #7) and still waiting to hear.

Anyone else here in a similar situation?

TheVulcan,
S applied early September. His stats are no better than your D’s. He was accepted about two weeks later. Received the GAP supplement and 20k merit via snail mail shortly after.
He did spend a lot of time on his short essays. Great ECs, but not sure how Pitt looks at them.
I don’t know how they make those decisions. Probably luck plays a role as well. As noted above, Pitt is not done with scholarships yet. Based on her stats, your D should get a scholarship.
My perception is that they send the GAP supplement right after acceptance. Your D meets their requirements. I am surprised she hasn’t received the supplement yet.
Is there a place you can call to ask these kind of questions?

Thanks, @4011959, and congrats!

Son is admitted as a CS major, which doesn’t offer GAP.

In their live chat Pitt indicated the essays are used when student is “on the bubble”, which is hardly the case here.

I misunderstood your post. I thought you were waiting for the GAP supplement
Good luck!

Thanks! We’ve pretty much written off Pitt at this stage. More frustrated than hopeful, but got bigger fish to fry.

D applied early Oct and received acceptance email 10/30. OOS applicant (California). Received snail mail merit aid of $20K (total, not annual) a few days later.

Happy thanksgiving!!! DS20 just got his acceptance video . So exciting, his first acceptance anywhere. No info on honors college or merit. Not sure if/when we will hear more. Still such an exciting add to the day!

@TheVulcan , if you haven’t tried it already, please give a call to admission/Fin Aid office regarding your son’s merit. They might let you know what is going on. Two years back, we were waiting to hear back regarding my daughter’s GAP invitation for a long time. Then I gave them a call, they granted her the invite while I was still on the call. Sometimes things fall through the crack. Please try, it won’t hurt. I am sure a big news awaits your son. Good luck to that bright kid.
