@PM81 if you are specifically asking for academic scholarships then yes, you can still send in your new scores and ask to be reviewed. When in doubt, you should email our office and ask that the Scholarship Committee reconsiders based on the new info.
Financial aid such as loans and grants are based on the FAFSA and have nothing to do with SAT/ACT scores.
@TheVulcan there is a note directly after that “NOTE: The above criteria are provided for the purposes of guidelines only and not meant as scholarship requirements or guarantees.”
@hailtopitt1787, I didn’t say it was impossible, I said it “seemed unlikely”, given this very explicit statement: “In recent years, scholarship eligible students possessed ALL of the following”, capital letters ALL.
The note you are referring to tells me (as a reader) that these numbers
do not guarantee a scholarship
and
one can get it without them - but the text above tells me (as a reader) that an exception has not been made "in recent years".
Perhaps this page could benefit from some re-wording.
I couldn’t find enough explanation on your website about the “Panther Pride Award.” Is the amount that was listed for my current high school senior what she is eligible to receive for her freshman year, only? Or is that dollar amount automatically renewable for each of her four years? If it is based on FAFSA info then I’m really worried it will disappear after year one.
@hailtopitt1878 To state the question of @TwoHighSchoolers differently, what would need to happen for Pitt to reduce or eliminate the Success Grant or Panther Pride Award in subsequent years?
For example, assume there is an initial gap of $15K in financial aid which is due to an EFC of $10K and two children in college. In year 4, there is only one child in college, resulting in an EFC of $20K and a new gap of $8K. Would the level of grants be maintained? Would grants be reduced only when the gap is eliminated or some time before then?
Got my financial aid award yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. In addition to generous need-based grants (Pitt Success and Panther Pride) and self-help, my initial merit award was doubled by something called a “Panther Pride Merit Award.” I suspect it is some combination of need- and merit-based?
Does anyone know if there’s any hope of still getting a merit scholarship if I got my financial aid package already and it said nothing about merit? I got my financial aid package today, and it only mentioned loans. My stats aren’t bad at all, and I didn’t expect much, but I thought I could get a small merit award so I’m disappointed. Pitt’s my first choice it’s just too expensive without enough merit.
@bridget328 Your question was addressed on the prior page, which stated “some students can be reviewed several times before an award is made but they would definitely know by March 1.”
It seems possible to still get an award, but there is a strategy to shift aid dollars at Pitt from merit to financial aid. My son did not receive any merit scholarships, although he met the indicative score/gpa levels indicated on the website. He was accepted back in October, so we are assuming the merit review is done.
So very disappointed. Pitt is my kid’s top choice and just received an email with Financial Aid award package which is just the Federal Unsubsidized Loan. Friends with same ACT scores, same strong GPAs (unweighted 3.9), same rigorous course load, same straight As… and they each received $14K merit. My kid also has a very responsible job and they don’t work. I’m scratching my head. To add insult to injury, they don’t want to go to Pitt. Also have another kid in college at the same time. A bit shocked.
We had been told that we would only get the $5500 unsubsidized loan but haven’t received notification for even that. Are the awards showing up in the psmobile portal or are they emails or letters?
@imabigOof Well that would be amazing but my kid is not quite at that level so I suspect this is it, but thanks for the positivity.
@vannevka The notification came as an email. It also said to check https://my.pitt.edu for more information but, unfortunately, it said the same thing. If you haven’t navigated on my.pitt.edu just yet, it’s not very straightforward but you can find your way to the right page thru trial and error.
Good luck, everyone. I hope you receive better news.
