DD saw buttons today. Applied to Swanson 8/28 via Pitt app. In state 1490 SAT, 3.87 UW. Grades self reported, no recommendation letters. We hope the packet arrives this week.
My kid was accepted 11 days after applying. No letters of rec. Self reported grades. Our high school was very clear— only send what they ask for. I would imagine self reported is fast, because someone doesn’t have to enter grades from a transcript.
Jsut a timeline and my stats for everyone because I just received my letter!

I received my “buttons” last Thursday 9/12, still waiting on the letter… i’m telling myself it will take longer to get to me because i’m out of state and very far away. Why can’t all the colleges work on this kind of sensible quick rolling admissions system?
Good morning, @hailtopitt1787 Does Pitt offer an admitted student day in the fall?
Received my acceptance letter in the mail today! Applied 8/15 to Dietrich and buttons changed on 9/12.
Son submitted 9/8. Buttons on 9/13, letter today. Dietrich and Guaranteed Law Admission. In-state. Love Pitt!
Hey guys, I just applied on Sunday and sent my test scores then, and submitted my SRAR yesterday. Do you know how long it will be until I hear back? I have good stats and applied for Honors as well, do I hear back for honors when I get my general decision? Also what are these buttons people are talking about? Finally, how do I check my status update, is it just on the Pitt Passport site? Thanks!
Hi There! Did everyone submit the optional essays? and do we know when you hear about scholarship money??
Congratulations! Did you complete all three essays?
Is completing all three essays required for honors/merit consideration?
Look through thread for reply from @hailtopitt1787 but essentially SA’s are recommended but not required for merit. That said, I’d answer them. My son did two of them.
Thanks @chmcnm. My daughter submitted her application with 2.
My daughter applied in mid-August and was deferred today. Not sure if that is the right term, but she needs to submit mid-year grades and sit for another SAT before they will make a decision. She is a horrible test taker so she’s not feeling too good about this because her score is not likely to increase. Hoping that the effort will count for something. Congrats to all who have been accepted so far.
@Dancer41 Best of Luck to your daughter. I am a high school teacher and had kids deferred last year that had to submit grades and they did get in, so don’t lose hope!
@Dancer41 Can you disclose your daughter’s stats (scores, gpa, school/program applied for)? I agree with @Andromeda10. A counselor at our school said he knows of kids from our school who were asked to submit 7th semester grades and/or later test scores who were admitted. Others were also admitted off waitlist. Don’t give up!
@mdxc2states Just read upthread for all the info you need on “the buttons”, plus several reports of timing from submit to buttons to mailed packet.
@Andromeda10 @Yocco1
Thanks for the information and fingers crossed here that she will be ok. She really likes the school and it is one of her top choices. Our school’s, GPA scale is odd, they use an A+ as a 4.5. She has a 3.87. She’s taken honors and AP courses in English and History. She also has some good extra curricular activities and completed all three optional essays. Her SAT is the issue, she tried twice and couldn’t get much over 1100. She’s going to take it again because she has to but she’s not sure it will increase - we had her tutored as well but it didn’t change anything and is quite expensive. We knew the test scores were an issue. She was applying to the school of Arts & Sciences with an interest in non-STEM majors.
I know you can’t rely on Naviance, but based on our school plot she’s well into the green check mark territory but I know that admissions has gotten more competitive.
Best of luck and thanks for the words of encouragement.
