Son applied and he got an email asking for his latest ACT score before they make a decision. We got that back last week and although he brought 2 subscores up, his composite was the same (24). Some people are just not good test takers. So now we wait for decision (have a feeling he won’t be seeing any buttons) but you never know.
OOS (GA)
UW GPA: 3.71
W GPA: 92/100 (should be over 4.0 but not really sure how it converts to 4.0)
9 APs (never below 83) and 6 Honors classes
ACT (here’s where we hurt) : 24 but if superscore- 25
4 yrs football, track, and FBLA
Major is Business
@Dancer41 This is our third rodeo, but D’s older siblings had higher stats (taking the “old” SAT). Pitt did not seem quite as competitive back then - my oldest applied and was accepted but went elsewhere. D is right around Pitt’s 25th percentile now with her current scores, hopefully can improve some next sitting, and hoping her answers to the short-answer questions push her over the edge. Lots of leadership, community service, varsity athletics, etc., but Pitt’s application doesn’t consider those unless you can squeeze into the short answer questions somehow. I believe if Pitt had a truly holistic admissions process and considered activities, sports, jobs, etc., she would have a much better shot, as she has a pretty impressive resume.
Just curious - how did your D find out her decision was deferred for more info? Was it on the portal, or did she receive a letter or email?
I believe Pitt’s intention for not asking for a list of activities is they (the clubs/organizations as just a list) don’t really tell who you are as a person or how those activities impact your life. If those activities are truly meaningful, you can incorporate them somehow into your short-answers, at least from experience. They don’t want to see everything you’ve done for the past four years with no context. They want to see how certain events shaped you into who you are. That is what really onterested me about Pitt at first. They know most the people applying to college have activities than have little meaning other than to look good (be it for college, themselves, peers, teachers, or family).
How long does it take to get the acceptance letter after you see the buttons? Does email come first? Or letter? I’m super anxious now that I’ve seen the buttons!!!
@tbell4 It took 7 days for my son to get the letter in the mail after the buttons appeared. (We live in NJ). The email with the video then came a few days later.
Does anyone know when offers of merit scholarships will start? @hailtopitt1787 Do you know if it is rolling like admissions? I seem to recall someone saying they start on October 1. Thanks!
@burke1098 Last year, I believe the merit committee met around the first of October to begin reviewing applications. Reports of merit offers started appearing here in mid-late October.
Can anyone comment if FAFSA needs to be completed in order to receive or be considered for MERIT scholarship? I’m not asking about need based aid or scholarship. Thanks
My daughter found out she was accepted today. (I already knew because of the buttons). She found out by getting the email with the personalized video but we haven’t received the mailed acceptance yet. Thought usually it’s the other way around. This was really fast - two weeks from submitting application to notice of acceptance. Thanks, Pitt!
@panther44 - I not sure it matters. How many schools is she applying to? My son only applied to Pitt and Penn State. We had a free code for Pitt and Penn States App was $60. The Common App is $70. I personal think there is less chance for error by using Pitt’s App.
@TenCh430 - The buttons are referring to the admission section on the Pitt PS Mobile App. When the school receives your completed application it will say “Application is progress” (or something like that). If your accepted “Buttons” show up that ask you if you want to pay your tuition deposit. The tell tale sign your accepted.
@Arm2227 - Thank you, She applied tonight through the Common App. Pitt is her #1 choice so she didn’t want to wait any longer. She has 9 other schools she’s applying to, but really hoping for Pitt. Congrats to your son. He’s a lucky kid!
On website Pitt Passport, says application is complete - submitted a little over 2 weeks ago. On mobile app under admissions tab, it says “accept/decline admissions” and when I tap on that it says “you have no pending applications”. Should I call? Seems weird.
