In other years when testing was more available, kids who needed merit could try to get that 35/36 ACT score, now those with perfect GPA’s are competing against others with perfect GPA’s with those 35/36’s. My 19 year old couldn’t get hers over 34 so OOS merit just brought costs down to a bit over in state. In state is usually the least expensive option, 2 of mine went that route, and 1 of my 18 year olds will also. Is your daughter eligible for FA? My 2 oldest got good job offers after graduation and are putting a serious dent in their $60,000 loans.
That’s an entirely different discussion. Trying to figure out a degree that’s going to position kids to get the best jobs. She’s still trying to figure it out. She does not want to go to our State school University of MD-College Park, even though she got in. It’s too big. We are waiting to hear if she got any aid. She would LOVE to to to American U. We are waiting to hear if she got any aid from that school as well. But if not it’s her reach school. Pitt was her one and only school. Great fit. She visited it 3 times. Loved it.
My daughter got in to UMD, she’d go there in a heartbeat (never even saw it) if she was instate, it’s $5000 cheaper for in state than Rutgers is for her, also a big college. I doubt UMD is going to give her enough to bring it down to $30,000.
My daughter got into UMD which is in-state for us but has no desire to go since an hour away and about 60 kids from her HS class will go there. Pitt campus is more her vibe, more scenic, compact and walkable. Got into Va Tech today too but too big and rural I think.
For my money of all the schools I saw va tech was easily the nicest. But my daughter thought what u did. Too big. Hey loved uga which is equally big. But a bit less rural. Va tech is gorgeous
Just curious if anybody who was deferred for review of mid-year grades has heard back with a decision. It’s been a few weeks and have heard nothing yet. Originally applied on November 17.
Hi guys! I was admitted to Pitt in November and applied to their GAP PA program. Upon admission, I received a physical letter about submitting a personal statement/letters of rec for the GAP PA program by March 1, and some other info abt submission. However, my dad accidentally recycled the letter a few weeks ago and after doing some searching around on my portal I can’t seem to find an electronic copy of my invitation to apply. Does anyone know if there’s electronic versions of those docs/where to find them or just what the full letter said in general
I was asked for midyear grades and heard back 2 weeks after I submitted them. Good luck!
Does anyone know how many apps pitt received this year or how much they increased by? Kinda curious to know how the acceptance rate was affected this cycle for pitt
My brother just got in today too, with GAP Law. He also got 20k a year but not for undergrad, but for his years at the law school, has anyone gotten something like this? Does this count as his official merit offer? I know only about a week remains left of merit consideration.
Thanks for posting this. Like many others, my son is looking at merit as part of the decision making process and starting to narrow down acceptances. Pitt was accepted early January but Fin Aid award recently received was a $5500 loan and no merit - and was very unclear if there was a potential for merit at any time. He was going to withdraw his application thinking Pitt would be more expensive than other schools he’s accepted to but I guess it won’t hurt to wait until March 1 to see if there’s a miracle there.
Hello all!
I was just curious about merit aid at Pitt… I was admitted in early November and have yet to receive a scholarship. I have a 1580 on the SAT, I am in the top 7% at my high school, and my co-curriculars show leadership as well as a love for business.
I know Pitt says that merit scholarships are given up until March 1, but I am getting kind of worried considering it is the last full week of February. I just wanted to know if Pitt actually does give out really late scholarships, and if there is still a chance for me to receive one.
Pitt was out of the running because it was the most expensive option after getting just $5000 in merit. However, received the financial aid letter and noticed the panther pride award of $8600 a year (no other school has offered FA but more merit), so now the cost is similar to other colleges. We will have 3 in college next year, the following 3 years we will have 2 in undergrad and 1 in graduate school. I wonder if my daughter will receive FA all 4 years if our income doesn’t change much?
My understanding is that only undergrad counts in aid determination. Once a sibling is in grad school, it’s not taken into account. (We are in the same boat). Frustrating.
Thank you, we’ve had 2 in college at the same time before and didn’t receive any FA, so this is probably the only year my daughter would get it.
We will have two in college as of next year and it is certainly daunting. I reached out to the admission showing the other offers D21 has, which are significant, and she basically said, there are too many students with just as high stats. She wished us the best and hoped D would become a Panther. Since it is D’s #1 choice, we bit the bullet and committed.
Fortunately, due to covid, we’ve been unable to tour any colleges so there is no favorite.
@collegegoal1024 Are you instate or OOS? My daughter is instate was accepted mid- October (1570 SAT with 4.0 GPA very rigorous course load, including 13 APs plus good ECs). She didn’t hear about merit until mid-January, and all she got was $2000/year.
We got Financial Aids letter from Pitt which listed merit scholarship and loan.
I am OOS - I already received my financial aid package which only included the loan - guess that means no merit aid
