University of Pittsburgh Class of 2025 Official Discussion Thread

Has anyone appealed for merit money? I am still shocked my son did not receive any. OOS 34 ACT 4.0 AP classes, etc… Just want to know our chances of appeal.

so confused on how to see if accepted into honors. I don’t understand Pitt’s email stuff~

I see this:
Thanks for checking your document portal from Pitt Admissions. Currently, we do not have any information to share.

I Don’t even see the acceptance or the merit letters that were sent in the mail.

This is the right one

As soon as you login, the only thing we saw was a document. The document is about acceptance to Honors.

I found this to be a good summary of merit aid at Pitt:

University Scholarships are the most common type of awards and based on academic performance in high school. Criteria includes weighted grade point average, strength of curriculum, class rank (if applicable), results of the SAT or ACT (if applicable), and quality of the responses to the short answer essay questions. Test optional students admitted for Fall 2021 will be considered for University Scholarships. The SAT/ACT scores in the various profiles listed below are from recipients who submitted SAT/ACT scores in prior years and are not requirements or guarantees but guidelines only.

University Scholarship Recipient Profile
In recent years, scholarship eligible students possessed all of the following:

  • Minimum SAT score of 1480 or ACT composite score of 33
  • Overall ‘A’ average
  • Challenging high school curriculums consisting of AP/IB/Honors courses
  • Top 5% class rank (if applicable)

NOTE: The above criteria are provided for the purposes of guidelines only and not meant as scholarship requirements or guarantees.

Number, Value, and Term of University Scholarships
Less than 25% of admitted first-year students are awarded University Scholarships ranging from $2,000 per year to $25,000 per year. University Scholarships are available for four years/eight semesters of undergraduate study provided the recipient maintains a 3.00 cumulative grade point average and meets all other terms and conditions of the award. Learn more about requirements governing University Scholarships.

Notification of Award
Due to the competitiveness of University Scholarships, most admitted students and their credentials are reviewed by the Scholarship Committee several times before a final decision is made. As a result, those students selected to receive an award will be notified anytime between late-November and March 1 regardless of date admitted.

Eligibility Requirements

  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident

My daughter is still waiting.

My daughter emailed someone today and they confirmed she had been accepted to honors, but it was one of many that didnt make it into their portal. I am glad she asked. I saw on another post that there is an honors day, but no mention of that in her message. For whatever reason, I feel like she applied when they were merging computer systems or something. I just hope that she doesn’t miss anything important. Good luck

I haven’t received anything about any Honors day.

I have been accepted to the nursing program with a 1530 SAT, 4.0 UW gpa (school doesn’t weight), and 800 on SAT Math II

Deleted. Posted in the wrong thread. Sorry!

It’s a very competitive program. Congratulations!

While reporting SRAR for senior grades whats the right approach

you enter MP1 and Mp2 grades or 1 Semester grades?
Do you put GPA for Senior 12th grade or leave it blank ?

I called the Admissions Office last week to appeal and ask who reviews student’s files because I was also shocked. We are OOS. My daughter applied last August and was accepted in November and received NOTHING. She has basically the SAME stats as most everyone on this blog. It is completely irrational to me how she was overlooked.

What did they say when you called? I’m interested to find out!

I’m sorry she is disappointed. Is she your oldest? Since we have 5 kids, they have a choice on in state or chase merit. They know not to have their hearts set on a particular school because of this. My daughter has similar stats as yours, except has an ACT score of 33, top of her class, 3 time varsity captain, volunteer, honor societies, club officer, 7 AP’s rest honors, and got $5000, with might as well be nothing because the cost is SO much higher that similar schools that have much more. When everything is said and done, we will do the math and base decisions on that. College is so competitive, partially because it’s so expensive that high stats kids are competing for merit instead of applying to more selective colleges. One of mine wanted Villanova, got into honors, is at UD instead. I’m on #4 and #5 and it seems even worse this year. BTW my daughter absolutely loves everything about UD even though it wasn’t her first choice.

The young woman took my name and number and my D’s name and said she would mention it to the appropriate people. I haven’t heard back.

My oldest was brilliant, but decided not to go to college b/c he didn’t want to a lifetime of debt and knew I couldn’t afford it. He packed up and moved out with friends working in computer programming. Breaks my heart. Could have done so much more if college weren’t so expensive!
