University of Pittsburgh Class of 2025 Official Discussion Thread

We’re from MD too. My D got in to MD as well. I went to UMD and really wanted her to go there but she finds it too big. She loved the vibe at Pitt as well.

We are in MD and D got into UMD but too big and too close. Also about 60 kids from her high school class will attend so she wants to branch out. Pitt checks all of her boxes.

We’re from MD too and my D accepted to UMD, but doesn’t want to go there. Hoping Pitt will be in person in the Fall.

Hi! I was accepted about two weeks ago to Pitt, and I was wondering how long it takes to hear back about scholarships? I checked my financial aid portal and it says I’m eligible for zero from the school, but I think those are ones you have to individually apply for? Am I wrong about this?

They are all out unfortunately.

well shoot

Does it matter than I applied rolling September 30th? Or is it only based on when they accept you

We applied in October. What they said all along as my daughter or I called is - they award aid until or through March. I forgot. If you read the chain, many people who applied early were waiting while those who applied later were getting some.

My daughter emailed her counselor, one last plea and the counselor said all has been disbursed, that only 20% or so of kids are awarded anything. Maryland seems similar. These are the two schools where my daughter (so far) has gotten no aid.

If you want aid, you have to go to Miami (OH), Alabama (the best), Arizona, South Carolina, or Florida State (same rank as Pitt). Some on the forum mention U Del and Binghamton as well.

Ah that sucks I was going to use Pitt in a scholarship appeal letter for my top school Temple because it’s ranked so much higher. Was banking on something

Congrats on your acceptance! I know you were waiting a long time. Bummer about the merit, though. Can’t hurt to contact admissions anyway. You never know.

We’ve had luck with UD, UMASS, Temple, UCONN, and Bing in the NE. $5000 Pitt, $2000 UMA, no bueno.

When we talked to Temple AO couple months ago regarding scholarship appeal process, she suggested submitting better test scores, grades and ECs.

Up to date, it did not work for us but maybe you have better luck than us. :grinning:
Good luck

I won a golden key for the scholastic writing awards and am going on for national consideration and got straight A’s first semester in rigorous courses so I’m really hoping that will help even if I don’t win nationals

Good luck and we will root for ya !!!

DS applied first week of November. Didn’t hear anything for about 2.5 months. Then got a deferral and request for mid-year grades. Now it’s been three weeks since those were submitted, and nothing again. Assuming it’s a no, since still no buttons in the portal and there’s a C in the mid-year grades (very intense private school and kid was focusing on semester-long courses thinking they had time to bring this one up).

My D21 has a similar timeline. Applied mid October, was asked for mid-year grades, submitted at beginning of Feb (with a C+ in 1 class) and this week found out that she was waitlisted. She is applying for nursing so we are not surprised. She was notified via email of the waitlist status.

Yep. My son got 10k from U Delaware and 12k from U Conn and nothing from U Pitt or U MD.

Temple is a great school. Pre-COVID they were not big on scholarships. My oldest almost said yes to Temple, and they were pretty straight forward in that they have a standard $ amt they offer OOS accepted students. They give out higher $ amts very sparingly.

So, in the best of days, Temple wasn’t as giving as other equally competitive state schools.

Yay! finally DS got accepted into Computer Science UPitt main campus after 5 month wait
Mid year report sent 2 weeks back.

Need help understanding , Does UPitt CS any ETM requirements like Penn state ?
CS is not part of Swanson engineering ?
When do we typically hear about any merit or FA ?

Any inputs really appreciated

I don’t think there’s any merit money left
