Career wise which college has best opportunities?
My son applied end of October, didn’t hear anything for 2.5 months also. He sent three emails to admissions because their portal looked like he had two applications started (terrible portal!) all emails went unanswered! Finally we received a snail mail letter asking for his mid-year grades (no update on portal). Sent his grades mid January and after a month, he emailed AO officer with again, no response. A few days letter - he got an email saying he was admitted for spring semester and waitlisted for fall. He has a 4.5 (out of 5), 1450 SAT (790 math) and applied as a math major. He has gotten into other schools that at least have the courtesy to answer emails. So turned off by this school!
So sorry to hear that. My son finally got an acceptance earlier this week and is so relieved. He did not have any acceptances until just a week or so again, and this is the first one from a school he is actually interested in. I do know how frustrating this all is. My son is not a math major, but I imagine it makes acceptance even that more selective. Best of luck to your son!
I’m happy for your son - this year has been more stressful than ever! Hopefully more acceptances are coming his way this month!
Has any OOS test-optional applicant got any merit aid greater than 10k per year?
OOS, TO, 15K per year (Cathedral of Learning Achievement Scholarship)
Is it common to be admitted as “Intended field of study: Pre-medicine” as opposed to a specific major? I guess majors are to be specified later on?
You declare a major by the end of your sophomore year (at the latest). “Intended” simply means what they understand you would like to do.
Thank you, that makes sense.
My daughter applied way back in last August and got accepted in Early November. She is in the top of her class has AP classes, honors, volunteering, etc. GOT NOTHING from Pitt! I truly do NOT understand where all the money is going!
Need based and diversity (cathedral of learning)
Same with my daughter. We are OOS and lots of AP classes, awards etc for service volunteer, varsity sports.
Did she submit test scores? Mine did not and I do think Pitt puts more emphasis on test scores when it comes to merit aid, whether they are optional or not.
My D went test optional as she wanted to apply early and hadn’t had the chance to take the test by then. She applied in Sept and got admitted in Oct. She got a 5k merit scholarship.
I’m not sure about that, we went test optional and got into the business school with about $8500 in merit. Pitt required additional essays for those going test optional, and at first we looked at that as annoying, but we then realized it was an opportunity.
Is she in-state or out-of-state? We got merit but we are out of state, still doesn’t match our in-state prices but that maybe why we were offered money.
Good question! My son loves Pitt and got into the undergrad business school. He also got into Ohio states undergraduate business school - with better merit. Anyone have information on these 2 schools, how they compare? We r in NY.
One is gigantic - and not in the city.
One is in the city. And mid-large.
Both are fine choices.
What can you afford is always the first question?
Where do you feel most comfortable is most important - if you can afford.
I don’t believe Pitt gives aid based on where you are from meaning - they are not interested in (nor would they know) if you got into a state school or what it would cost.
I believe they give aid based on two things:
- Performance - so that’s impressive you got aid.
2.Diversity - the Cathedral of Learning Scholarships - which seem to be bigger
In regards to business school, other than the top 10, there’s no huge advantage in my opinion. You’ll be fine anywhere.
Find the right and affordable choice.
