It is the guaranteed admission program to the graduate nursing program (similar gap available for med and dental school)
The Pittsburgh area has a lot of plows, salt stockpiles, and so on. The airport is also very well prepared for winter storms.
During or immediately after a truly serious ice storm or blizzard, there can be issues even on major roads. Not long after, major roads are usually in full service, but the more minor the road, the longer it can take to clear. More minor snow events may cause some traffic slowdowns on major roads but typically wonât actually halt things.
Right now it looks like Wednesday is going to be a bit of a slushy day with mostly rain but maybe some snow mixed in. Temperatures are supposed to drop that night, but the precipitation is supposed to be clearing up.
Of course things can change, but I would not personally be worried about travel from and to the airport on Wednesday. To the extent you can leave a little more time in case of some traffic slowdowns, that is a good idea, though. Like no traffic, it is about 25 minutes back and forth from Pitt and the airport. You can check for live updates that day, but depending on the timing there can be some congestion even on dry days, a bit more on wet days.
Otherwise, I would actually emphasize not going crazy with the winter clothes. Dress in layers, have a waterproof outer shell and maybe umbrellas. But if you are going in and out of vehicles and buildings and such, make sure you can open up the layers when it is warm so you donât sweat too much and then go back into the cold that way.
Thank you for your guidance. That is very very helpful!
I note it is starting to snow a little in Pittsburgh. Hopefully it is more pretty than an inconvenience!
Absolutely no accumulation so far, nothing slippery on the road as of now!
We have about an inch northwest of the city.
Yes! We were there! It was beautiful and not an inconvenience at all. It turned out to be a great visit without issue. A beautiful campus and a great tour and admission office staff.
When does UPitt tell you if theyâre giving any merit? My son is already accepted but merit hasnât been released?
It really varies. My son heard about five weeks after he was admitted. Some people hear faster, sometimes it takes until Spring.
Does it come in form of email or mail?
There will be an email to check the portal. For some reason I seem to remember that merit decisions typically came out on Tuesdays, though this could be completely wrong.
DS got merit 2 weeks after admission
Thank you
My daughter was accepted 9/23 and didnât receive her merit letter and award until 11/26. She is in-state and applied test optional & my understanding is the committees continue to review admitted studentâs files in multiple rounds from admission through spring.
Thank you
I applied on 11/14 and my application has been under review since 11/19. I am sooooo scared because Pitt has been my dream school for many years. I downloaded PeopleSoft because the website said theyâd notify me through there (?), I clicked on general information and I already have a panther ID and student ID??? My application is still under review Iâm so confused on what this means. I hope I get in though!
Did anyone else (parent) receive an email to Pitts resources for first year students today? I find it odd since my son says he has not gotten an admission email (applied 11/1) and is refusing to check the portal.
Yes I got that email and my child was admitted. She never received an email with a portal update. She received an email a few weeks after admission with a personalized welcome video. But that was much later. Your son should probably check his portal
I just got the same email! DS25 applied 11/1 and has not received a decision yet either. Waiting for an email as well. Would love a decision before the holidays.
Same. My son never received an email, but he checked the portal fairly regularly and found the decision there.
applied 10/27, havenât heard anything, getting nervous - applied test optional, do you think this is why?
