Looks like regular decisions came in yesterday and may have started on Friday night. My son turned in his UofSC application on Nov 29, and just learned he was accepted to UofSC majoring in Mechanical Engineering. We are in-state.
Same situation here- really thought it was a safety and ended up waitlisted. Not high on list at all so its not a big deal but just odd.
We heard that about 40K out of state students applied for admission for this fall, not sure how many in state applied. The common data set shows that two years ago, they had 42,188 total in state and out of state applications so seems safe to say that applications are way up.
My daughter was accepted early action with an out of state waiver. We assuming scholarship information will come sometime after regular decision. Does anyone have any information on when they update scholarship information ?

Daughter accepted, business. OOS, TO, 94.5/100 GPA (whatever that translates to). Deferred from EA round. Just withdrew application, daughter has better options. I find this overall process to be beyond ridiculous. Former safety schools are not anymore. Good luck everyone.
Almost everyone from our high school (NJ) that applied got waitlisted and there were some very strong stats. Not sure why ppl still think this is a safety school⦠The SEC schools are EXTREMELY competitive and get more so every year.
Agreed⦠and what we learned most of all, is you can count on nothing! Nothing is safe when applications keep growing. We just would have thought USC would have come in before several other acceptances, but ok!
It has traditionally been a safety school. It has actually become easier to be admitted for in-state students. One of the reasons it is much more competitive for OOS this year is the following, which is a major change from previous cycles:
āAll South Carolina students who are ranked in the top 10 percent of their high school graduating class will be guaranteed admission to the University of South Carolinaās Columbia campus starting with the Fall 2024 application cycle.ā
I get the point about safety schools. I applied to Northeastern years ago as a strong safety and until our daughter expressed interest, didnāt realize how competitive, popular and well-ranked it had become. This year, they got over 97K applicants for 2200 spots in Boston. So just because a school was a safety years ago or even in recent years, doesnāt mean it is presently. We took nothing for granted this year
Can anyone tell me about Gamecock Gateway? Is it offered to OOS? Stats needed? Thank you.
I have seen this mentioned often this year (the top 10% instate gaining admission). Iām sure it had an affect on the OOS admittances. This one is now officially off of our list. My Gamecock LOVES it and is SO happy at USC. And now itās VERY weird that I am going to have to cheer for a different school for child #2.
Best of luck to everyone on this adventure!
I think they waitlisted so many OOS kids because they have no idea what the yield will be on the Top 10% auto admits. A couple of my sonās friends were waitlisted.
Good luck the rest of the way!
Yes, some applied here instate that probably would not have, but it was a guaranteed acceptance and Clemson is pickier instate, though top 10% usually get in there too.
Most will not go to USC that applied due to the auto admit. It does drive up the in state admissions stats though.
Did USC publish any data, articles on their application stats since releasing RD?
Offering admission to the top 10% of SC students shouldnāt affect OOS students, unless the school is also planning to reduce their target percentage of OOS students. (usually about 50% OOS) Has anyone heard that they are trying to lower that number?
In-state and OOS are typically two separate buckets. If anything, SC students out of the top 10% of their high school are the ones who may be negatively affected by the new policy.
Looking ahead for my daughter for next year, class 2029⦠any RD acceptances that can share their Stats/Test scores or TO/Major/IS vs OOS? Trying to decide if USC is a school she should try for next year?!
Not sure if this has been answered or if itās possible at this stage to answer, but what are the stats/numbers for this incoming freshman class - acceptance rate overall? how many applied for how many slots? Google says the acceptance rate is about 64% but is that still the case - as it says Auburn is 44% and that seems like it would be lower now? Just curious.
Wondering the same⦠looking ahead for my daughter and her upcoming process!
Also curious to know if USC offered Pathways for admittance to students in the RD process⦠Is there a summer program? Abroad, 1 semester or 2? Local CC for a year w/ on campus housing at USC? I see on the admissions page some info for Transfer, but curious to know if these are options presented to applicants if not a Fall Admit, wait-list, or denied?
