unfortunately I dont think that means anything. I was deferred in EA and accepted RD and I got my merit. Although my friend who already committed didnt get anything yet so maybe theyre still coming…
I was worried that I paid my enrollment deposit to secure a spot for housing, so was thinking that they think Im already committed
I dont have a scholarship information tab, where is that typically located?
it would be a tab to the right of “admitted student guide” it looks just like the others
Yea I dont have that
hoping that they haven’t gotten to me yet, sounds like it just started releasing Friday?
Mine got most of the merit with her acceptance and then another round this past Friday, along with Capstone Scholar.
Spoke to our admissions rep, all merit has been given out as of Friday. Congrats to those who received theirs, she said it was very competitive and they only give it to about 30% of applicants, and priority to in state students
Do you mind me asking if your daughter got merit? Her stats are similar to my junior in high school- looking ahead
Their merit “resets” with each admissions year. They will publish the 2024 ranges and amounts (2023 listed now), but it is only a guide.
Received my gamecock shirt today!
My daughter is a sophomore and was able to stack the $6000 OOS provost (national merit) with her other scholarships. Just make sure you have designated South Carolina as your first choice on the National Merit Paperwork. My son (current HS senior) has been told this year that he will be able to stack it as well, so I have no reason to believe it won’t happen. Good luck and I hope your child loves it!
Our daughter is still deciding between South Carolina and another school. I expect her decision in the next week or so. Everything seems to be moving so quickly with room selection, orientation already being scheduled, etc. She is HC and wants to live in the HC dorm (and her admission counselor told her not to worry about finding a spot there if she commits in late April). My concern though is roommates. She just got added to the Insta page yesterday, but practically, is there a way to be matched with potential roommates based on preference in the housing app or to go random for HC? Asking as we haven’t paid the housing deposit as she hasn’t committed, so wondering if there’s a matching process as many girls on Insta are rushing and she likely isn’t. Any insights are appreciated!
As part of the housing application, you list any LLC you would like to be considered for (and if in Capstone or Honors College) you can select those. There are also some basic compatibility questions (do you care about how neat the room is, do you anticipate guests and how often, do you stay up late/get up early, do you like the room cooler/warmer, etc.). Roommate matching for the next round begins tomorrow and I assume at that time, you would be able to see other students who match your requested housing and preferences. There is no question on whether they are rushing.
My daughter is also HC and will not be rushing (although she does like to be social). She has just started getting some contacts from the insta page and will also be looking at the roommate matching tomorrow when it opens for her.
If she wants to do Honors dorm, my daughter is in Insta. Her insta is about 20 from the latest post. She is wearing ice-skates with a snowflake on the ice, so kind of hard to miss
If your daughter wants to connect for HC, have her insta her (I’d give her insta address but this is a ‘confidential’ page). The part about not rushing but likes to be social sounds similar to our daughter.
In case anyone is looking to appeal a Merit decision, our daughter appealed hers and received more merit $ yesterday. Not a huge jump from $500 per year to $2K per year (+ in-state tuition which she was awarded with her EA decision (we are OOS) but every little bit counts.
It was an easy process. There’s a form to complete highlighting changes since you applied (in her case, mid year grades, leadership in research through the Biotech she works with). Hope this is helpful info.
When did she appeal?
Do you know when your daughter submitted the appeal? My D24 also submitted an appeal and we are waiting for a decision. Hoping to hear something soon since she’s trying to make final decision on where to attend.
How do you complete an appeal?
There was a link somewhere on the portal. I’m not sure though because my daughter did it.
I don’t remember the exact date but probably 3 weeks ago? It ws right after RD decisions came out, there was an email about scholarship appeals so she contacted her counselor and submitted. She said it was very easy and quick to submit.
