Oh my yes ! Duh me … forgot we passed the RD date too
Wow, 50k applicants to go to school in Columbia, SC! I would love to know how many excellent students who aren’t even familiar w/ the region are taking flyers on many of the southern schools.
WOW! This is mind blowing. Makes me wonder how many applied to Clemson then! Sounds like we need to be expecting a deferral in our home as well.
Columbia, SC is a great college town and the school offers so many opportunities after college.
Seriously. Well said. For whatever reason, UTK, Auburn, USC are the “it” schools right now. To be honest, I don’t view any of these schools to be any different from say, KU, Mizzou, Arkansas, or LSU. They are all great schools.
I know this to be true I think many are applying with much less of an idea about the area and the school. That’s ok, it is a recent phenomenon.
I think all the big schools are seeing these numbers. You have certain states guaranteeing spots for top performers and nearby states not doing the same. We live in VA and no top ranked schools are doing these guarantees. In fact it feels difficult to get into our own state schools so we branched out to nearby states. Trying for schools in VA, NC, SC, and TN to keep it driveable.
Post Covid everyone up North (us included, we’re from NJ) wanted to escape the strict Covid rules and sent their kids South for school. I think that’s part of the reason Clemson, UofSC, UofTN, UofMiami, LSU, etc. are seeing such a dramatic increase in the number of applications which is driving down their acceptance rate. They’re becoming the Ivy’s of the South.
, Tennessee is a great example. The acceptance rate went from over 70% to 40-ish % in 1 year! I am impressed with so many high performing kids. Spread the talent!
Same for us, but we are in NC. Our flagships, UNC and NC State are very hard to get into. We went for SC, GA and TN, but still very challenging.
That’s us. NC residents applying to schools in the states bordering hours. It’s not as new a trend as kids from further north applying to USC imo. The kids nowadays are a bit more courageous in being further from home plus the common app makes it easier to apply to a lot of schools.
My 2021 is there now. My 2023 applied, got waitlisted and never ended up getting a rejection or acceptance. Wasn’t one of her top choices so it worked out.
Same here. My daughter got merit already from the other schools she was accepted to
this is totally it. This is why my son is applying to southern schools and trying to flee California
Waiting for U of SC, U Tenn and UGA today as well.
Any portal changes to discuss? My daughter’s major on the upper right hand corner is gone, but the drop down button is still there that lets you change major, withdraw app, change address, etc etc.
UT is most likely next week according to previous years and other forums
Any thoughts on timing today? Do they release all at once or in drips like some other schools?
Same here for S24. This portal is pretty sparse compared to most others so not too much to go on I guess!
The email I got said it will be later in the afternoon with an email notification to check your portal.
