South Carolina makes you enroll in order to do housing.
Learned this the hard way. Will obviously be more careful and make sure we do not enroll at any more schools. I think U of SC is the only school out of the 13 to which she applied that has this requirement. I am equal parts annoyed and equal parts kicking myself for not paying closer attention. At this point, I will go ahead and pay the housing deposit and see how it all shales out. I just want to make sure that they are no wider repercussions (e.g. school rescinding an offer) to my kiddo if we have to withdraw before May 1. I guess it is too late now. ugh! Hope others learn from my mistake.
No you are fine- the issue is people who actually enroll in more than one school. You can pay housing deposits at schools without enrolling if they allow that (many do) and then if you choose not to enroll, you lose the housing deposit. If she decides not to attend South Carolina, she should unenroll (is this even a term, lol) and then enroll in her school of choice, all before May 1.
We paid the housing deposit too. My son is almost 100% sure he is going to USC as my daughter goes there as well. The deposit is not binding but assume we will lose the $200 if he decides otherwise.
There are many housing options but some are much nicer than others so we figured better to get it in early to secure his spot!
We are going to accepted students day on March 23rd. What does your daughter think of the school?
She loves it. Had a bit of a rocky start with rush (long story but had to drop out). Rush is an emotional roller coaster. Ended up getting a bid in the spring so all worked out.
She likes the energy, football games, looking into studying abroad next year. You have to get accustomed to saying the word “■■■■■” all the time!
The weather is warmer than she’s used to in Maryland….all positive so far.
Looks like they blocked out my word but it was Gamecocks shortened!
Did everyone who received merit see the award in the body of the acceptance letter? S24’s letter did not mention merit and I am wondering if there is another place I should tell him to look. I do not have access to any of his portals.
Ours showed in the body of email.
OK thanks. I was afraid of that. Oh well.
I have seen many post on FB groups that students will get notified in March with merit as well. Not everyone is notified with their acceptance.
My daughter received an email from admissions that I was cc’d on. It said the following:
“Merit-based scholarships from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions are currently being evaluated and will be awarded by mid-March via your USC Admissions Portal.”
My unscientific research (my opinion - lol) seems to show that students accepted into the business school had merit included in their admissions offer (maybe some other majors too). However, some majors, didn’t seem to include merit info. I’m holding out hope that maybe she’ll get some merit aid in the mid-March timeframe.
My S24’s said the same word for word.
My daughter just received a decision on Honors College!
Was it an email?
Yes, saying that her Honors College application status had been updated.
Same, my kid is at work so can’t open. I know they speak very highly of the program as a way to lure kids. Anyone know a lot about it? Much earlier than expected, just looked and it said by mid-February.
They usually do two rounds of acceptances, one early one around Christmas and then a second one in Mid-February. The program has a lot of advantages like early registration, small classes, great Freshman dorm, lots of activities and support for internships, study abroad, etc.
My son was just accepted to the Honors College as well. So darn excited to have this opportunity so early in the process. He is thrilled.
Our daughter got hers as well (OOS). Any idea how much more scholarship money they receive for Honors? Also has anyone heard about Top Scholars yet?
