DS got his notification that he wasn’t selected on Mon or Tuesday. It was the one notification that only went to him and not to me or my husband.
I am a student and my parents have not received any emails either unfortunately
Maybe you didn’t get it since you were an alternate? Hopefully, you’ll get some good news if you check in with admissions this morning. Good luck!
Thank you! They emailed back and said all top scholars were already chosen. They said they didn’t send non invitees a decision email which is confusing but either way I got my answer
Did you got invited to Honors College in December?
@chickenpotpie1
Hmm, mine received an email. (She was accepted to Honors; maybe they only sent to those and not every student who applied.)
I did not
Ok maybe that was it. Congrats on the honors acceptance!
any info on when deferrals come out? do they just come in with RD?
EA deferrals get moved to RD round and hear in the RD release. (unless USC does it differently??)
I started another thread on deferred from Clemson and U of SC if you’d like to join us…
Fingers crossed on the Honors College … anyone know when those decisions will come out? Sounds like either this week or next. Thanks!
I believe someone earlier in the string had said that they spoke w/admissions, and it sounded like it would most likely be 2/15–not any sooner.
My daughter is a sophomore at South Carolina, and she did not get invited to Top Scholars in 2022. (ON this thread because my son is applying this year). She was a 4.0 uw student, valedictorian of her class, tons of EC, leadership etc. It’s just so competitive for OOS students!
However, SC did a great job of helping her find $ to attend - let her combine National Merit and other scholarships so that her final scholarship $ was very close to TS. She felt welcomed and supported from the first moment she scheduled classes with the Honors College (you get to schedule early in spring before summer orientation). Her honors advisor has helped her navigate changing her mind on her cohort, planning for semester abroad next year, having to add classes last minute when she was selected as a Finance Scholars this spring, etc. It has been such an amazing experience for her and the Honors community has been everything we hoped! Good luck with your decision.
Thanks for this update. Anecdotally, the school seems to deliver on its honors college promises. I always appreciate hearing about the experiences of people who are in the system.
This is so encouraging to hear! Can you share more regarding how the scholarship process went? Did you talk with USC along the way, or was it all sent to you in a final offer? How did the timing work relative to when you committed, housing deposit, etc.? My daughter is in a very similar situation as yours- HC, pretty high amount of merit but not so much that it would be cheaper than our flagship school which has a great reputation. But our hearts are in love with the USC HC and direct admit to the business school. We have been told that the final merit offer will come in mid-March but don’t know what means relative to the FAFSA delays. Any suggestions or tips you have to share would be much appreciated! Many thanks!
My daughter is also a sophomore in the Honors College - it has been fantastic for her as well. She even switched her major a few weeks before she showed up for freshman year - which required a total change of all her classes - and the advising staff and Honors College admin were wonderful. She loved the Honors Residence and is now in an apartment with other Honors kids (and is in sorority so she has a nice wide circle of friends). Generous merit aid rolls over each year (and I believe it is heavily tied to test scores and GPA - there was a chart on their website to get a ballpark). Point is - even without TS, it has been a great experience.
For parents of Honors kids (or those more in the know than I am ), There’s a lot of chatter about kids picking their roommates as early as now and depositing for housing immediately. For SCHC residence, is there such a rush to commit now or do we have time?
The rest of the Honors acceptances are due to come out mid-month. There are fewer beds in the honors dorm than the number of expected honors students. They sometimes overflow to other buildings. Room pick is done by when you put in your room deposit, which also requires enrollment deposit at SC. You need to be willing to commit in order to get in line. Definitely worth considering.
