Does housing portal registration email go to my daughter’s personal email, her newly created U of SC email, or my email?
The housing portal is open.
Didn’t get an email. Just log in.
I read in the Facebook group that housing gave bad info. It will not be required for honors to be in the honors form but it’s strongly recommended. Not sure if you have to opt out or how that works.
I read through some old threads, and most years the Top Scholars notifications were sent the same week as MLK Day, typically around the third Tuesday of January. MLK Day falls later this year, so the third Tuesday would be next week. If using past years as a guide, then possibly anywhere from today through next Wed unless they switch things up this year?
It looks like in the past initial notices went out, and the candidates had a week to confirm their attendance. They had a couple of alternates to invite in the event someone from the original list declined within that first week. Any alternates received invitations quickly after that first deadline passed and had to respond ASAP. Candidates who weren’t selected appear to have received notification that they were no longer being considered by the first week of Feb.
In state Top Scholars had a separate weekend from the OOS candidates.
Second round Honors College acceptances followed by mid Feb, and Capstone invitations went out in March as did merit scholarship numbers.
What do you mean “it looks like initial notices went out”? You mean they already went out this year or from the past years? I do agree that if notifications are sent, they must do so by next week.
She is a first year. From what I’ve learned, there are changes to how housing works every single year. This year her plan was to live at 650 Lincoln her sophomore year with a mix of students that were in honors and not (as previous years the non-honors kids could be pulled in by an honors student). However, that changed for this year and if you want honors upperclass housing (the Horseshoe and 650 Lincoln) you must choose roommates who are also in honors. She decided that she really wanted to live with one of her friends who is not in honors so signed a lease off campus over winter break. The majority of kids in honors that she know are applying for housing on campus for next year. It’s a 2-part process. Part 1 began today - the initial application and roommate selection. In a couple of weeks they’ll randomly choose who gets sent the 2nd part of the application. If they fill that out, they are guaranteed housing on campus, and I think that is when they can choose their rooms. She felt that the chance of getting a room in the non-honors and LLC designated housing for upperclassmen would be based on luck since they would both have to be chosen for the 2nd part of the application. This way she has a spot within walking distance of campus and she doesn’t have to stress any more.
I referenced invitations from prior years. Nothing has gone out for this year yet.
Where did you find this information?
Someone in the class of 2029 facebook group posted that they called Honors and got the “correct info”. It’s very confusing.
I am assuming it is because honors kids stress about not getting honors housing and now there are guaranteed spots for them. I think they are still able to opt out there is just priority for them to live there if wanted.
Are you saying that the slot for housing is dependent on when you pay your $200 and signed up? I did order for you to get housing. You have to actually give it enrollment deposit - right? It was not like that in Tennessee - When you signed up, did it matter, everybody went into the same pool. Want to make sure I’m not wasting $200 since we’re not sure if she’s going to South Carolina
Anyone know if Top scholars is likely to come out today at 4pm or 5pm?
Here are the steps.
- Pay school enrollment.
- Wait 48-72 hours.
- Pay housing deposit.
USC puts students in order based on hope early #3 occurs to choose housing. All freshmen are guaranteed housing. But, the later you are, the less likely to get your first choice
Ok, I’ve got a question I’d love feedback on.
My student was deferred EA. He sent updates (Fall grades, honors/activities update) via email to both to his admissions counselor and the Honors College. He got back notification that admissions doesn’t accept updates to his application. He heard back separately from Melissa Bueblis, Scholar Recruitment Manager, thanking him for his updates and saying “I want to assure you you are still under consideration for the South Carolina Honors College. All Honors College decisions will be released by mid-February.” So, we’re stumped. The HC accepts updates but not the university? He could be admitted to the HC a month before hearing whether he is admitted to the University?
Seems like there’s a breakdown of communication between the HC and Admissions.
I don’t know how likely it is, but I’d love to hear if anyone does get notification.
I have been wondering the same!
Sounds like Honors students are put in the Honors dorm if I understand it correctly. Hoping I don’t really have to do anything.
Emails are out for Top Scholars. Looks like they’ve gone to an interview semifinal stage. When did they change this?
I guess just this year. Did anyone in this thread receive one?
