University of South Carolina Early Action for Fall 2025

I didn’t go, my spouse did. It was very well-organized and lots going on. My best recollection is some things were combined like initial tour, meals, and main dinner with President. I recall a parent bus city tour and maybe some other view tour? I think they had hospitality space open with snacks and coffees so parents could meet up if wanted. They did a nice job with it, I remember being impressed how much care they put into it and all the commutation prior.

My kid has 3.6 gpa, competitive school district, AP classes, Eagle scout. Deferred. Hoping for acceptance

Did new decisions just come out?

Nothing here

We are accepted, in state. Received email Thursday before thanksgiving. We have paid the $200 deposit. It is our understanding we cannot pay the housing deposit until 1/15, is this accurate? And housing selection is based on date of housing application?

yes

My son was accepted to Honors and wants (as of now) to live in the Honor dorm if he ends up attending USC. If you are accepted to Honors are you automatically in the Honors dorm if you want it? Any other suggests from current Honors kids/parents about where to live?

If you want to live in the Honors Residence then you will have a room, but it is not required. My daughter chose to live there and absolutely loves it! Other dorms I know some honors students have chosen are Campus Village (it’s the newest, but farther away), and sometimes one associated with another LLC (like Galen Health Fellows). The benefits of the Honors Residence Hall is that there is a coffee shop and dining hall on the first floor as well as classrooms where some of the honors classes meet. My daughter said it was nice to be able to roll out of bed and be in class without having to go outside first thing in the morning. The rooms in the Honors Residence are all different sizes but I believe that none are considered tiny. They have high ceilings. There are also single person rooms for those freshmen who may prefer them. Also, being so centrally located on campus is a big bonus. My daughter studies a lot at T Coop (the library) and it is a 5 minute walk which is great when she is heading home after midnight.

Great, thanks for your response. I think he prefers being in the honors dorm for location (close to the center of campus and the gym and Darla Moore) but the Campus Village dorms look nice. Is your daughter a first year? Just curious on how housing is for honors students after the first year.

I think a lot of honors kids live in 650 Lincoln their sophomore year, and I have heard great things. It’s near the basketball arena, I think.

The honors dorm is a good central location, but my daughter decided to live in Campus Village because she absolutely loved it when we toured on admitted student day. It is only 2 years old and really nice. There is a community kitchen on each floor with multiple study rooms and a living area with a tv, couches, etc. She originally wanted to live in a quad, but because we didn’t commit until mid-April she was only able to get a room in CV1, which is pod style. Basically, it is a typical dorm room with 2 roommates along one side of the hall, and down the other side are multiple individual and lockable bathrooms/showers that are cleaned daily. She is actually so happy that she ended up in this option. If you do end up there, I recommend a room on the top floor. She is on the 6th floor and her ceiling is like 11 ft high, which makes the room feel so much bigger. Campus Village is further out on the outskirts of campus, but they do have their own dining hall (in CV 1), a Starbucks, and one of her favorite dining options is the Golden Spur (just opened this past fall). For her, it was worth the extra steps, and she has no regrets. Her first class of the day was at Darla and she said it is maybe a 15 minute walk. There are some honors options for sophmore year but not guaranteed. She is planning to get an apartment within walking distance to campus, specifically close to Darla.

Just finished listening to the housing webinar. New for this year: Honor students are REQUIRED to live in honors dorm. They can roommate match but rooms will be randomly assigned.

No way they are required to! There goes my hopes of living at 650 Lincoln :skull:

Is this possible to be exempt? This is so unfair as I only applied because I had the option to NOT live in honors housing. No notice was made of this and I don’t know what I could do to get out of it. I already have three roommates who are regular USC and I want to be with them.

It didn’t sound like they would be flexible tbh. Im a mom and I get it. My oldest is at U of AZ and while an honor student, did not want to live in the honors dorm. USC didn’t explain the reason for change on the webinar but they did say it was new for this year.

Posted at the exact same time  …It didn’t sound like it, but you could certainly ask. They said it was required this year.

What are the chances of getting admitted to USC after deferral if you applied for business? Is it possible to call and change major
To something less competitive?

Top Scholars are all of the awards listed on that page, including Horseshoe Scholars (full tuition). It’s not just the Stamps. Everyone who is invited and attends the weekend is named a Top Scholar. The weekend competition determines the amount/exact scholarship awarded. There are 45 OOS Top Scholars named annually.

Anyone know when invitations go out?

Darla is very competitive. Admissions is up front that it can be a challenge and will depend on what the RD candidates look like. Yes, you can change your major - might be able to do the request from the app management portal. However, if you are admitted to something outside of business, it is just as difficult, if not more so, to transfer in later. So if you really want a business program, just know that you might not be able to transfer into Darla later on. My son went through this situation a couple years back and ultimately decided against South Carolina because he didn’t want to risk not being able to transfer into Darla as a sophomore.
