University of South Carolina Early Action for Fall 2025

What’s everyone’s best guess on when merit will come out?

Our daughter had the same goals…she was done in New England. Having said that, to each their own of course, but I don’t know why someone would consider USC over UVA. They are not even comparable. If my daughter got into UVA, I would make her go.

That sounded snarkier then I meant it to. All I meant was that USC is ranked 124 per US News. UVA is ranked in the top 30 and is widely considered one of the top 5 public in the country. My daughter applied to USC for Fall 2024 and got in, but I just find it odd that former “safety schools” like Auburn, Tenn, and USC are now hard to get into. It’s not like their academics have magically changed from three years ago when the acceptance rate was 70%+. Very frustrating, and I’m frustrated for all the kids and parents as we went through it last year as well.

Your response did not sound snarky. D is Oos and waiting on any merit from USC, other option is attend UT Austin. I am intrigued by so many parents saying that their children are so happy to be in usc and never regretted decisions. I want my daughter to attend somewhere among happy people. I am not sure but Austin might be a stressful environment. Anyway usc is in top 2 for us.

Agree but also depends on the major.

Our daughter got into some amazing schools, but was done with the sharp elbows in the Northeast and wanted a transformational experience. And given she’s pre-med, which she could do anywhere so long as she completes the required coursework, has high GPA, service and MCAT scores, it made sense to go where she wanted (which was one of the least expensive, given there’s no scholarships for med school). And I take rankings with a grain of salt as what the kid does is much more important than where they went to school.

@lovetractor Yes, if he got into UVA we would have that conversation with him. Since we are OOS for both, the is a $50k plus a year difference in price (my son got the “at least 96k” at USC and really likes it. More so after we visited a second time for the Honors/admitted student weekend in Feb.

Thank you, this response was really helpful. I am choosing between ranking/ instate tuition, and Oos usc for the 4 year growth/quality of life leaving home

The law and Medical school tract sounds interesting for those planning on going to those fields.

Anyone heard anything about capstone?

Do you have to have applied to Honors to get chosen for Capstone. Or picked the LLC?

Capstone is invite only. But you would have had to apply EA to be considered. You are not eligible for that LLC unless invited.

Got it! Thx.

I looked back and last year merit scholarships were released on Friday, March 8th. Let’s hope tomorrow is the day!

Does anyone know if The University of South Carolina sends out an accepted package after you’ve been accepted? We did claim the shirt, do they mail that also?

They do.

Honors admission also played a big role in this as we didn’t want her in a big state school without a co-hort to travel with and I think the recognition that goes with HC, the thesis, etc. definitely levels the playing field with other higher ranked schools.

Are we still thinking they will release merit today? And if so what time does that normally come out?

Sure am hopeful but have no idea. Last year it was Friday March 8.
