University of South Carolina Early Action for Fall 2025

$43k here - and after a deferral! You’d think they could figure this out before deferring merit scholar kids!

Now that merit is rolling out, has anyone received a Capstone invite?

Seems they sent those out as well.

Oh well, guess Capstone’s not happening here, although the merit award was a welcome, unexpected surprise.

Does anyone know if the Capstone is worth participating in? My son was invited but it was not on our radar. How is the housing? etc

I’ve heard great things about both the program and the housing. Seems like a win win as the are guaranteed a spot in a specific dorm and have a pre-established community in place.

Congratulations everyone!

D25 OOS accepted to Honors in Dec. Not invited to Top Scholars. She was awarded Academic Superlative (reduction to in state tuition plus $500/year). Her stats fit the published criteria for the Excellence Award (34 ACT and she’s top 2% in her class), so this must have been an extremely competitive merit pool this year. It’s getting tougher every year.

There were so many talented students who were waitlisted for Honors, deferred to RD, and so on. I think I heard USC had about 60,000 applications this year, but I haven’t read an official stats release from the school yet. I wouldn’t be surprised as it’s become a popular choice.

it’s supposed to be excellent and has its own living learning community and building

The housing is old–son had mold issues. Just a few elevators and they were iffy…can be a great exerciser for those on the high floors…
They have a dining hall within the building that was redone a few years ago.
It can be a hike to class depending where classes are. Gym is 30 minute walk.

They have social/volunteer/leadership events but it is a program where you get what you put into it. There are some international experiences available (spring break/study abroad) that are space available so not everyone can do them (you apply)
It is a very social dorm that consistently creates great long term friendships. This is a consistent positive year after year.

Costs a few hundred a year to participate.

Their announcement here just says over 60,000.

My D25 OOS is similar. Accepted and to Honors. Also received the Excellence Award. 35ACT.

Congrats to everyone!

I am assuming they are completely done sending out any sort of merit or scholarships? So it would be safe to say if you did not get anything, you won’t be?

Do you know where we check our financial aid or any merit. The latest email seemed to be like we are getting $0 merit but I haven’t even seen FAFSA. Honestly, really disappointed with the communication on financial aid side from USC.

All merit has been released.

When did the Capstone offer come? In the scholarship letter?

I just got the email with the financial aid Q&A as well. I am super thankful for what we got  As a single mom it’s rough, but I would have figured it out. This just takes so much stress off of me. Sorry to those who are feeling disappointed  I’ve heard the departmental scholarships can be generous. We applied and are keeping are fingers crossed. Either way my son is committed and excited for the Fall.
