Oh god - I lost track of time and have to get to class… I had late start for senior privilege! GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!! Ill be sending positive vibes!!!
For U of TN my son has a 4.8gpa and we have zero changes in portal…now worried! He has been accepted to Auburn, GT, full ride to Mercer, deferred at Clemson…he really loves the U of TN campus and vibe there.
What does your son want to study? That’s a great Gpa - congrats to him!
Thank you, he got flat out denied at UGA and has been completely crushed, as my husband’s whole family has all gone to UGA. We were pretty shocked.
He wants to find a similar college with same type of campus and vibe and enjoy his 4 years there and then go to grad school.
He wants to study economics to move into healthcare industry.
Emma - I think this means deferred to regular. My son has the same thing, the “Log into My SRAR” and he did not have the other celebratory things. On their website it says when EA is deferred to regular you can/should update your SSAR for 7th semester so I think it’s clear we are deferred.
Yeah
That’s a crazy result for your son at UGa which shows the randomness of the process. I told my kid to “expect the unexpected” during this process!
Crap, are we just getting denied? We have zero changes? No asking for 7th semester grades or celebrating wallpaper…
I hope he finds what he’s looking for! You really never know until the process plays out. My oldest had a complete change in her plans (her choice) and is excelling on the path she’s on. But it takes time!
My current senior has UTK as her #1 choice right now. We’ll see how it shakes out. We’ve never visited and were really hoping for a chance to go to an admitted students day! She has other options, so that’s a good thing.
It is so random, no rhyme or reason to it. So many of his friends with way way lower stats got in EA. He has been super depressed.
Clemson and U of TN are at top of his lists, he loves the campus at both places.
Thank you, same for your kido. Wish her all the best!
This is our first of four kids going to college, so this has been a huge learning experience for us.
BTW the campus is absolutely lovely!
What time did you check his portal? I forget when, but the changes disappeared completely at a certain time, like around 9 or 9:30. If you checked for the first time after that you would not see any portal changes. I find it hard to believe your son would get into GT but be denied at TN. Also, we discussed this earlier in the thread but it might have only been released in batches which is why some might not have had the confetti yet. Hard to wait. I’m sorry about UGA. That would be hard to reconcile with your state flagship after all the hard work and dedication in comparison to peers who may not have made the same sacrifices. I’m hoping everything works out for your child in the end. He sounds incredibly bright and hard-working.
It is so hard. Tell him to hang in there. My son has now been deferred at EVERY school he applied to EA and I am not feeling hopeful about TN. Friends with lower stats being accepted. He was somehow deferred at UGA out of state and we keep telling him that is a good thing, but he is so hard on himself. I hope UT goes your son’s way. My son’s dream school since he was 2 has been Clemson so that deferral hit a bit harder.
Crossing my fingers for your babies (and Emma and Ae1231)!
I checked it 30 minutes ago I think.
Yeah GT was a shock to us, I really didn’t think he had a chance lol, I made him apply just to see. My son strongly dislikes the campus vibe as he says, type of students he met on campus (engineering, snobby) and absolutely does not wanna go at all. We are trying to talk him into GT, but he is not budging at all.
I just called the admissions office as I also have a button to log 7th semester grades. From what I got from the counselor, it sounded like this should be there for everyone, as the early action deadline has passed and regular decision is now being reviewed. She also said she isn’t sure on a decision release date, but it will be before Friday. Hoping this isn’t a deferred tell.
I just wanted to provide some perspective for everyone and remind everyone how ridiculous the current state of college admissions are. Hopefully this helps.
There are 4 schools that are the “it” schools right now: USC, UTK, Clemson, and Auburn, and I would throw TCU in there as well although not as acute. It is important to remember that historically these have always been fine, solid schools, if unspectacular, that provide a rock solid education. Two years ago my son was admitted to all five of these schools with much worse statistics then my daughter. Have these schools academics magically gotten better from two years ago? Of course not. Auburn in particular is acting quite arrogant right now which I find especially distasteful.
If you have your heart set on these five schools, please don’t lose sight of similar schools that offer the same education and in some cases are ranked higher depending on program. Literally the same education: Arkansas, KU, Mizzou, LSU, Ole Miss, and if you are open to up north, UNH or UVM. UNH was the only public flagship in New England that handled the pandemic rationally that valued individual choice if that is important to you and is ranked higher than USC if you are ok with putting up with the winter. It is literally located right on the Great Bay and the ocean and right next to Portsmouth. You would also have an easier time getting into UCONN and UMASS, both of which are ranked higher than the five “it” schools I mention above.
I know the “why” around the “it” schools right now. I totally get it. Great weather, great sports, atmosphere, etc. But there are plenty of just as good options if not better with better merit if you expand your search and are willing to have an open mind.
FWIW. Sorry for the rant I just thought it might help some people put things into perspective.
My OOS son’s portal showed a student id, admitted major, and other pieces of information at 9:15 this am. By 9:40, it had all changed back to what it has shown for the last month or so.
We assume that this means good news once the information becomes official. This is the last one and he (and Mom and Dad) are just ready to start the decision making process. Accepted at Auburn, Baylor, Clemson, South Carolina, Ole Miss and denied at Georgia. One way or the other let’s just get this over with.
Does your son’s portal say anything about logging 7th semester grades if you don’t mind me asking?
I do not believe that it asked for that information. I could be wrong however. Of course, now I cannot check.
