University of Tennessee Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

Me too. How do we know that won’t mess them up even more!?

I am worried about this also, but I logged into UF portal and it appears they lock it down once complete. But definitely calling admissions today as UF is top choice if accepted.

I just took screenshots of hers, showing the date in Sept! Utk Had the same date right up until last night when it changed to Dec of course.

For the EA deferred applicants and not an EA applicant with a SRAR issue, are they now allowed to provide more info? More letters of Rec, etc.? Resume? Personal Statement? When is the new date for a decision for this group?

Same. We received an email from admission counselor that everything was complete oct 28.

There is some good info here:

Can you please provide an update after your phone call to UF? We also do not want anything affecting the UF application

From our tour my understanding was that housing was guaranteed for freshman year but not after that. I thought they said it didn’t matter when you were admitted either as far as dorm preference.

DS OOS (VA) in the same boat as many here with a completed application and verification from UTK very far in advance and then nothing until almost 7:30pm last night saying his application didn’t meet the deadline for EA because it was incomplete. (still no indication of what was incomplete and all elements checked off as submitted). DS sent an email last night to the Assistant Director for first year recruitment asking for further information and next steps since he had confirmation of a completed app back in Oct. He got an auto reply from her stating that applications were up 28% from last year EA deadline and very high median test scores and grades, specifically for OOS. Not sure where to go from here. If we can’t get a response on what is missing and the portal shows everything submitted long before the due date it seems like a dead end.

He knows several other friends with same status and yes they all probably applied to VT as well which had an EA deadline of Nov. 15. Do we know if that is what disrupted the submissions (updated SRAR being submitted to other schools)?

We just had our tour yesterday. As far as housing, it’s a wave system. You are assigned a wave and each wave has 25 percent of each dorm. If you connect with a roommate, you register in the earlier of the two waves. So each wave has the same chance at each dorm. There is no bearing on when you were accepted and/or when you pay your deposit as long as it’s before the waves are assigned. We have a friend who got in early last year in an old dorm and one who got in RD in the best dorm. They stated they have 15 dorms, 14 for freshman. 7 of which are 2015 or newer. Hope that helps!

Same boat with DD. Updated SRAR to VT on Nov 20. UT Application kicked to RD, even though she had submitted their SRAR in October! Oh well. Fortunately, not a top choice so we move on.

I called and left a message with admissions to see what they are going to do to correct the SRAR/VT issue. If anyone hears from them sooner, can you please post what they say. Thanks.

I called admissions too and left a message. This is not isolated to VT. My son did not apply there but it was SRAR for another school. I will post if I hear anything back.

Unfortunately, I don’t think there is anything they’re going to do. It’s clear in the portal that it isn’t a glitch.

"You have not received your admissions decision for one of the following reasons:

-UT did not receive your completed application by the early action completion deadline of November 15
-You updated the Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR) after the early action completion deadline of November 15.
-You did not make the necessary corrections to your SRAR as requested before the early action completion deadline of November 15.

The above clear line on SRAR update means they know it’s not a glitch; meaning from their perspective, there’s nothing to fix.

We’re STILL waiting on Penn State EA (have already reached out to see if this same issue impacted that decision). Our far greater concern is if UF will take this same approach.

How selective was the chancellors honors?

Spoke to someone in admissions. They do know this is an error on UTs side, this has never happened before. My son’s updates only filtered to UT, no other school he previously sent the SRAR to. That should not happen, the original submission should not be overridden. They are having an urgent meeting to review and will circle back to impacted applicants.

Most helpful and reassuring. Thank you. We are a mess!

Thanks so much for passing along the info. Now we know not to call since they clearly are working it. I guess this will be the year that we break the admissions portals!!

I wonder if they have a way of knowing which students specifically were affected unless they reach out to admissions.
