Congrats! What are her stats?

Deferred as well with similar or better stats than others. This was a safety for my son and several of his friends that are even higher achievers. I think our HS has a very low yield to UTK and that may have played into the deferral.

That’s great. I really liked IU when we visited, it had a lot to offer. The Kelley Business School was impressive for sure and my child really liked it too.

OOS D25 Accepted - This was her top choice. She was super excited!

agreed! It’s all what they make if it, no matter where they go. Your child should go where they think they will thrive and be happy. Get involved, do things, craft their story. As a manager who hired SO MANY college grads back in the day, we cared more about what you did while at school vs where you went. And to be honest, one of my laziest hires was from an Ivy school. So, its their character, drive, optimism and happiness that matters most. Try to enjoy this process and know they will (hopefully) land where they are meant to be!

How were you test optional? UTK is not test optional. Are you in-state?

Apologies for misleading information…I got my schools the wrong way round (problem with applying to so many, and trying to keep track of them!). Anyway, to clarify, we DID submit SAT scores to UTK!

Just a FYI - UNC Chapel Hill is not fond of deferral - they hardly ever do so. Most common outcomes are accept, deny, waitlist in the EA round

Curious since your student applied for nursing- what is the ā€œholistic Nursing supplementā€ that is required for the application? Any idea?

In looking at the application process for their nursing program, they mention a holistic nursing supplemental as part of the application process. Can you tell me what this is? I have a D26 who will be applying next year and curious what the application process is. My S24 was admitted to UTK last year but ended up at another SEC school. I know the nursing application process is slightly different.

I’m going from memory because my D applied to Tennessee in late August. The process is different for every school. I recall that for Tennessee that in order to complete her application she had to complete the nursing supplemental that was available within her Tennessee portal after the Common App was submitted. It contained some number of essay type of questions to complete. I don’t recall specific details because she is the one that applied.

Thank you! This (the UNC not fond of deferral) is actually really helpful to know. I can start working on tempering his expectations. He knows exactly how unlikely it is that he’d get in, but I think he’s been assuming he’d likely get deferred. Letting him know that a deny is potentially a more realistic possibility is probably a good idea to try to help him acclimate to what I think is probably coming.

My son was accepted OOS, but we will be turning down the acceptance as he got into his ED school, which we have now officially paid the deposit for.
His UTK stats were 1370 sat, 4.67 utk gpa, lots of good ec’s and business owner.

Is anyone apart of any parent pages on FB or IG for UTK? The one I found appears to only be buying and selling of football tix.

I just - like a few hours ago - joined ā€œUniversity of Tennessee - Unofficial Parent Groupā€ on FB. It seems like the right thing from what I’ve seen so far, but who knows. (There are also companies out there that make faux ā€œparentā€ groups, so I’m a little leery, but there are so many members and the questions/comments seem right, so maybe?)

Well, fwiw, one of my DS’s closest friends is living his best life at USC— he absolutely loves it!

I didn’t see a Deferral thread, so hope it’s ok to ask this on this thread.
Does it make sense to change the application (if possible) to reflect anther major that is maybe less competitive but still relevant to my kid’s interests? She had been interested in a few majors but had to land on two.
