University of Tennessee Early Action for Fall 2025 Admission

Did anyone who applied for Chancellor’s honors program (and didn’t have it mentioned in admission acceptance letter) get an email today stating their child was on the honors waitlist?

Yes.

Be careful of buying tickets on those parent sites. A good friend got scammed out of $500 on an Auburn parent FB site, and the person disappeared with her money.

UTK is currently my son’s first choice. Is there any benefit to putting down a deposit early? Or can we wait until April with no consequence?

If he’s accepted, there’s no difference.

I’d like to clarify after re reading the acceptance letter she was accepted to UTK but denied acceptance into the architecture program mind her second choice interior architecture and out into the exploratory program. We need to call and find out more as she will not attend UTK to discover what her major should be! She already knows she wants to study architecture and took an architecture pre college summer program and studied architecture during high school. Is anyone familiar with the “discovery program”?

Oh no!!! I’m so sorry to hear that! Was it hidden in the acceptance somewhere? No idea what the discovery program is.

My d was at volleyball practice at 7 and received a notice congratulating her on being a volunteer. She then had to go back to practice and at 9pm opened a letter welcoming her to UTK but saying she wasn’t accepted into her first or second major but instead this exploratory program for
Students who are undecided. We did some research on it and it’s for students who have. No clue what they want to study. My d is very upset because she knows 100 that she wants to study architecture so not sure why they would put her into a discovery program.

My understanding is there are not enough spots available in the specific major at this time but there is a spot available for her at the university. First year students take mainly general classes, so after completing some you can change majors to what you want.

If UTK is her first choice, I would contact the AO and ask about the path to Architecture as I know this major is different than most ie needing to submit a portfolio etc. FWIW, my daughter ch aged her mind about majors a few months before starting Freshman year and was able to switch from college of arts and science into Haslam (which is supposedly a harder admit) in a matter of minutes. All she did was email her advisor and they made the switch instantly.

Thank you. She does plan on calling and speaking to the advisor. She won’t attend a college if not directly admitted to the architecture program. It’s unfortunate because she really likes UTK and we toured the architecture building. It’s very difficult to transfer into architecture programs so she won’t take the risk. She does have a backup school that accepted her with an excellent architecture program and gave her a presidential scholarship but it’s in New England and she wants south. I’m sure it will all work out and she’ll land where she is meant to be.

Thanks but she won’t do an exploratory program as she wants to be admitted directly into the architecture program in the fall. If UTK doesn’t accept her into the program for fall 2025 she won’t go to UTK as she said she is not changing majors.

Thanks. Yes she has only applied to schools that have accredited programs and has had to submit portfolios to about half. She wants to be in the program as a freshman due to the studios each semester and working with her classmates from day one. She took a pre summer architecture program last summer and 100 knows she want so be an architect. Doing a discovery program is a waste of time!! She’s known she wants to be an architect since she was 12. She plans on calling the advisor to find out more. Keep your fingers crossed!! Otherwise she’ll move on from UTK

My daughter just was as well, so I am hopeful someone will chime in with information! Usually with honors programs they have the advantage of registering for classes early, which is huge in these big schools. I am also hopeful this may put them at a higher chance of increasing the amount of merit money?
Congrats to your son!
