What was the issue? Do you mean with releasing decisions or that decisions were all over the place?
And do you think that is what is keeping people from commenting on here? I am very surprised this thread isn’t busier and that more in-state applicants/parents aren’t posting tonight.
Last year there was a huge issue with the incorrect reporting of the date the SRAR was submitted. People who applied and submitted their SRAR within the EA deadline and then applied at a totally different school later got their SRAR updated with a later date and Tennessee did not give them an EA decision. This was corrected a week later. I believe that the board is quiet because of the in-state auto admit policy. If you have a 1160 SAT and are either in the top 10% of the class or have a 4.0 UT core GPA you are in. Therefore, most in-state applicants already knew that they were getting admitted.
SRAR which was uploaded to another school with a different EA deadline triggered changes to UTK portal. Because those changes were after UTK EA deadline, those kids got deferred. Even though UTK fixed a lot of those issues within days of the decision, it created a lot of stress for some applicants.
Same here. My D applied to Clemson and Auburn both which have very active discussions
We are OOS and visited in October during an Open House. My D loved it and loved Knoxville. We were able to attend a pre season basketball game as well. Loved the campus, the buildings, the vibe, food and energy of Knoxville. Definitely in her top 3!!
We have not been to Knoxville yet. But, looking forward to seeing it.
Accepted, core GPA 3.67, ACT 32, Haslam SOB
We were sweating it out due to the low GPA, figured we would be waiting until March.
I expect a lot more activity on this board as we get to the OOS applicants. I saw an article saying there were nearly 60,000 applications as of last month, and 3/4 of those were OOS. Of the instate, about 5,000 were auto admit (another reason that I didn’t think S25 would get in at this point). Good luck to all you OOS!!
Wow that’s a crazy number of applicants!
Wow! That’s a lot of applicants!!!
Here’s an article about the increase: University of Tennessee applications may exceed 60K as deadlines near
Not great odd for OOS. They’re overall projected growth might be larger than what my child wants. These southern schools just keep growing!
Yeah, I’m a little worried about the odds now. I’ve been trying to convince my son that the data in Naviance isn’t relevant for UTK because things have changed too much recently with more guaranteed in state admissions so fewer spots for OOS, and added to that more OOS applicants just…. Makes it harder.
I assume no preference is given to applicants with a sibling currently enrolled UTK??
I looked at my son’s portal today and they gave it a new look since I checked it out last time (I took photos - LOL). Can’t remember if there were any “tells” last year.
What looks different than before?
I just looked at the portal and as far as I can remember, the layout appears slightly different, but I wouldn’t read anything into it. The Self-Reported Academic Record button is confusing. It says,
“Your next step is to create or link to your Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR). Once you’ve completed this, we’ll be ready to review your application!”
However, it shows my son already submitted this twice (August & September). He was confused by this. I advised him not to click anything! Especially since his UTK GPA is still showing up. Maybe they’re upgrading their website.
I just looked at my daughter’s. Her portal looks different, but I don’t remember exactly what was where and when. However, her SRAR part (under Resources) says something different than your son’s: " First-year applicants must report their grades exactly as they appear on their high school transcript. Additionally, UT requires that you upload an unofficial transcript to verify these grades. You can upload the unofficial transcript either directly to the SRAR or through your [Go Vols Portal]"
One thing that I think is different is that her GPA is listed “GPA - Out of State”. I don’t recall it saying “out of state” in that location before.
The layout is slightly different but I don’t remember exactly what it was like before. There isn’t a “next step SRAR” line though over here. It simply shows it as received and the date it was received.
Is there SRAR under the Resources tab? I think my daughter’s moved to that tab and was somewhere else before. I had thought that it used to be on the “next steps” tab.
