We only passed through to take a tour while otherwise on vacation so we only did the info session and official tour on campus. As this was only our first tour, I can’t compare with other tours but as a parent, I was impressed. I thought that the student panel showed friendly, upbeat, smart, down to earth students. Our guide was great - and she had her work cut out for herself with a very small (quiet) group on a cold and windy day.

The facilities seemed really nice and the campus was pretty, despite the fact that it was a cold, gray day. It was a more compact campus than I had expected, with most all the academic facilities for the various colleges on the central campus vs the other adjacent campuses, which I guess were more residential or athletic facilities. There was a lot of snow on the ground but the pathways were free of snow, ice, and slush.

Despite the less than ideal weather, there were lots of students out and about. Tons of students studying - alone and in groups- in the various buildings we toured. Positive, friendly vibes all around.

The info session/tour really highlighted the many outdoor activities available to students, with most of the students on the panel having participated in several of these. Definitely an active, outdoorsy vibe to the school.

It all made a favorable impression on my son.

Beyond the weather, the only negative was that the student body didn’t appear very diverse. (Aside from geographic diversity…not one student in the panel was from Vermont and the guide was from the Midwest.) The info session/tour did mention the Mosiac Intercultural Center and efforts to support more diversity on campus.

Tips: Be aware that visiting in February may turn some students off to the school. The reality is that the school must show WAY better in the fall than in the winter/spring.

Finally, prior to the visit the school emailed to say that if my child was accepted and enrolled, he would get a $1000 annual award just for having done an official visit. I didn’t see this on the website (maybe I missed it) so this was a nice surprise.
