UVA mentions on their Instagram that tomorrow is decision day but I thought they extended it to May 15
Looks like they took down the insta post
Dear Dean J,
I hear that many prestigious and large or medium-size schools are using AI or non-regular reading staff to look primarily at GPAs and toss the applications that are lower than an average GPA or some minimum GPA. My concern is that, if this is a trend, and if a student has stellar essays and stories and an ACT of 36, but with a 3.6 GPA which is at the 50% percentile of the studentâs very rigorous high school, will those essays ever be read if the average GPA at the university is a 3.8 or higher? I know that you probably would not have a definite answer that covers most schools, but would you know whether this system is becoming a new approach or do you know of schools that use this system? The obvious question: does UVA have such a system?
Thank you.
Should we expect any movement if in-state waitlisted? If yes, approximately when? Thank you.
Hi there, I canât speak for other schools, but UVA doesnât do this. Keep in mind, we donât recalculate GPAs, as numbers donât tell the story the way transcripts do. We need to see the coursework, grades, and trends on the transcript to understand a studentâs academic preparation. Also remember that GPAs and grading scales arenât standardized in Virginia and many states where our applicants are going to school.
The update on the waiting list FAQ page addresses the last question. Please check that out. It was linked in your letter.
Thank you!
Do we have any idea when the waitlist might start moving?
Has anyone gotten off the waitlist besides that initial wave of like 60 kids?
My daughters friend was offered a spot today but she declined. She will go to Virginia Tech Honors College
We did not make any WL offers this morning.
Hi Dean! When might waitlist offers start rolling out?
Okay, so no UVA waitlist offer, but hopefully VaTech is still a go.
