University of Virginia Early Action/Early Decision for Fall 2025 Admissions

Rejected but wasn’t on the top of out list after the onsite visit. Crossing the fingers for VT soon but also happy with JMU and the others. So plenty to make a decision on.

Does anyone have any idea what the deferral rate is? I thought I remembered reading that they discontinued it from early action

Since fewer than 5% of students were admitted during the defer review in previous cycles, we made the decision to eliminate deferral and offer the waiting list option to give students a more accurate sense of their chances of admission.

Good memory. I recall this and attached the link.

Thanks! UVA is closer but we have mixed feelings about having to re-apply to McIntire. Would have loved a direct admit option for McIntire like Kelley.

OOS son rejected. It was a reach and he knew it but wanted to give it a try. Congrats to those who got in.

so both OOS - so IU is cheaper.

Both great schools.

I’m a DA fan - but they are very different schools and if he chooses UVA, one way or another there will be a fantastic education.

I visited both campuses while son visited only UVA. We love the restaurants at UVA and its campus! Very convenient to come home on Amtrak! Will be checking out Kelley in a month.

Congratulations to those admitted applicants! Click on the “Financial Aid” tab to see your financial aid offer! No other schools where we received a decision had a financial aid package on day 1. What a surprise and kudos, UVA!

So difficult to get accepted out of state. I’m sorry but I’m sure your student will do great where they land!

I agree and I’ll add and don’t know the current but in the 23/24 CDS 2/3 of enrollees submitted a test. Likely higher in 2024. Take out athletes and it’s even more I’m sure.

I think more and more at many schools, TO puts you in a hole, sometimes huge, before you even start.

Does anyone know how many they typically accept in RD? As of now they accepted 6750 for 2700 spots. I can’t imagine they will accept a lot more

We prepped for the worst and surprisingly she was accepted. Now she has to decide where she would like to go. Good luck to everyone else!

You can look at past Dean J blog posts and the CDS to estimate RD acceptances. Based on yesterday’s blog post looks like UVA is targeting similar class size to the last few years (3,970.) If UVA is assuming about a 40% yield (that’s around their historical yield which is a blend of near 100% yield for ED and something less for EA and RD) with a target class size of 3,970, they would accept 9,925 or so total applicants. So far they have accepted 1,282 in ED and 6,746 in Early action, so that leaves about 1,897 acceptances for RD. Both ED and EA applications were up, so acceptance rate will be lower this year (unless RD apps are down.)

Daughter oos was accepted. Feeling very blessed and have a question as it appears many knowledgeable folks on this board. Thanks in advance!

We realize merit based scholarship are few and competitive. It sounds like you have to apply separately for them. Does anyone know if uva gives any merit based scholarships just from applying via the common app?
