Hello! So, for ED, it says 1,282 students were admitted. Looking at last year, it looks like the incoming class size was around 4000 and about 38K applicants for EA. Not sure if there have been increase this year for EA as it looks like ED went up 11 percent. So, if EA went up also by 11% or so, that would bring the acceptance to about 6.5% for the remaining spots and if 2/3 needs to be in-state, you are looking at very low OOS admit rates. OR is the math not right and there needs to be an adjustment for yield factor? Wow! How do they decide!!! This is tough…sigh!
Please see my post above with link to the UVA blog. The ED rates were 29.5% in-state and 21% for OOS. They got around 56k applications last year with approx 4k in ED, and make 9.2k total offers. So the EA rate would be ~ (9.2k-1.2k)/(56k-4k) = 15.3%
For a more accurate calculation, you should separate the in-state and OOS EA apps and OOS acceptance rate is then closer to 10-11%.
Does anyone know when EA can expect their decisions? They said by Feb 15th, but we have reasonable doubt to presume that they will come out earlier, just due to trends over the last few years. Maybe February 7th due to it being the first Friday of the month similar to last year?
Last year, EA decisions were released on Fri, Feb 2 around 5 pm ET. Wondering if this year we will see decisions on Fri, Jan 31 or Fri, Feb 7?
I can only share that my D21 received her EA decision on Feb 6, 2021. But this was 4 years ago.
I feel like we’ll “know when we know” . Got so exhausted by the waiting game in Dec for a few other OOS schools I just am trying not to anticipate the next few.
They usually provide a headsup on release date ahead of time.
Anyone know if mid-year grades should be sent for EA applications? They just became available at my son’s school this week. Cant tell from the website. Thx!
Look in the FAQ section. They say it is needed for students deferred in ED/EA.
I saw that, but it says due 2/15 if deferred ED/EA, but EA may not know until 2/15. I found that to be confusing. Unless decisions roll out prior to 2/15…
Just send it as it can’t hurt unless grades had slipped.
For my S25, the counselor submitted on the common app and it shows as downloaded by UVA. But it is not listed on the UVA portal. My guess is in the spirit of fairness, it is not considered for EA as many schools submit too late for it to be used.
Thx - is there a place in the portal? Will call admissions and ask but thought I’d crowdsource here as well to see if anyone had experience w this
Also last year EA was released Feb 2, so could be earlier than 2/15. I am speculating Feb 7 …
You could be right. I am also speculating EA decision on Feb 7 too. My D21 got her decision on Feb 6, 2021.
At least in the cycle a couple years ago I remember Dean J saying “if it’s submitted we’ll use it” for EA decisions. Meaning though not necessarily required, if it’s something that improves your profile submit it, otherwise don’t.
Is there any hope for EA decisions this week or is next week probably the earliest?
I don’t think it has been in January ever in recent years post-pandemic, correct me if I’m mistaken. I think we can predict the 7th (likely) or the 14th (will be surprised).
I bet the Peabody blog has a pre-announcement message this week, with releases early next week.
UVA is very professional about this, preannouncing release date, beating the stated announcement date, and not waiting until a traditional release day (like a friday or a monday) - they go when they’re ready, and it’s generally early.
I was hoping since January has 5 Fridays this year, that it might happen! The waiting is the worst!
