Still could happen in jan, they give 2-3 days notice on the blog, but i’m thinking 1st week of feb.
Dean J just announced decisions coming Fri at 5pm
Just announced - Friday afternoon at 5pm!
Never mind
Hooray!!!
Wahoo! I hoped I was wrong.
Where did you this? Can you share a link?
It’s also on their admissions instagram page
I am not ready for this! But so good to hear that it’s coming early!
Thank you for posting the update! I wasn’t anticipating checking the portal Friday as kid and I will be out of town touring elsewhere, so my mind was off this to resume next week. But, this is the very one we’ve been waiting on. Nervous for the outcome and that we’ll be far from home. Now need to figure out how to check it while traveling!
Agree. Just want to get this one over with (for better or worse) as it’s my OOS son’s top choice.
I see the COA is expensive for OOS. Do OOS applicants mostly expect financial aid or a lot of them are full pay?
Full pay for us so we are hoping for merit if accepted. One step at a time.
Better early for UVA rather than push the decision back a month for most EA applicants like UT Austin.
This is the debate I was having with my son too. He was admitted to UNC OOS EA as a Biology major for premed. However, we are in state for UVA, so I was talking to him about paying 33K for UVA vs the 55K for UNC for what I believe is a similar education in both places as we will eventually be paying for med school, so saving this 88K can come in handy now. I believe he is a strong applicant for UVA, so we will cross the bridge on Friday, but this will be a difficult decision.
I recommend going in-state to UVA and save your money for grad school. UVA is comparable to UNC and some may even say it’s better so no need to go OOS for whatever perceived benefit at UNC.
My kid was deferred at UNC but was accepted to U Mich. Rutgers is much cheaper for in-state but less good than U Mich so we have a tough choice ahead due to the much higher OOS at U Mich.
Do a search on “New Ivies”, Forbes and Newsweek have the list, other non-pay sites also have copies… might help your case.
While there is little doubt that objectively, UNC OOS is not worth it if you are accepted in-state UVA, college selection is not objective. IF one can afford both (before or after aid), there are many subjective reasons to choose or not choose a school including location, distance, weather, spirit, size, other students, clubs, campus, overall feel/fit, and many many others. For me, UVA has those subjective things too, but every person is different and no one can really tell you what a good use of your money is. If they are relatively equal in your student’s minds, then it might be a no-brainer. If, however, your kid loves UNC and doesn’t like UVA, it is very hard to push that aside.
Amazing for your son to be admitted OOS at UNC!! And if he gets admitted to UVA, I can appreciate how the “home school” might be less appealing but I agree that if med school is his plan, saving the money on the front end without compromising at all on the quality of the education is a compelling argument. Best of luck to him!
