University of Washington Class of 2028 Official Thread

My son got acceptance to Engineering undeclared, his first choice was Electrical and computer engineering, international student. How will be the progroms for Engineering undeclared majors?

Also he got acceptance to UW- Madison, Virginia tech, UMass Amherst, Umich and ASU all for Electrical engineering.

Engineering undeclared (ENGRUD) is the normal path for students wishing to study most engineering majors at UW. They all enter as ENGRUD, and then there is a process to apply to your preferred majors.

Here’s the general intro to how it works: Engineering Undeclared Students (ENGRUDs) | UW College of Engineering

Admission to majors information: Placement into a major | UW College of Engineering

And this page shows some historical placement information that can give you a sense of which majors are the most competitive for admission: Placement data | UW College of Engineering

If you want to discuss the pros and cons of several schools where he was admitted, it can be good to start a new thread, like ā€œComparing schools X Y and Z for electrical engineering major?ā€

That way you don’t get lost in this big thread about UW admissions

My son was admitted last year for ENGRUD. Although he ended up choosing another school, he liked the structure of the curriculum in UW engineering. ENGRUD students start with core courses that are applicable to all engineering majors, and have time to explore different majors and career paths before the major placement process.

The drawback (for students who have their heart set on a specific major) is that your first choice is not guaranteed. However, it seems that most ENGRUD students are placed into their first or second choice major.

What are the subjects that they offer to someone who’s been selected for the pre social science major?

could someone please tell

Thanks a lot for your detailed answers. Also may i know which college your son finally chose?

can you explain what they mean by pre science as i had applied for cs and got pre science, what does that mean

You can look above for other discussions on this but it means you will likely not be able to major in CS. You would have to try and switch into the Cs major after you matriculated which is challenging as it is a constrained major.

My in-state kid was waitlisted with 3.99 GPA, 5 AP, 2 Hn, 2 UWHS, four years of football and a PT job. I’m pretty much ready to move to another state.
