We were told in an admissions presentation that UW occasionally, but very rarely, uses test scores. The way they explained it to us is that in most cases, the application reader doesn’t see the test score at all. If the application is on the edge of possibly being accepted, they MAY look at a test score, but this affects only very few students.

Here is what they say on their web site: https://admit.washington.edu/apply/freshman/how-to-apply/test-scores/

when reading your application, the reviewers will not see your test scores, if provided. However, test scores that fall above our middle 50% (see the freshman profile for more information) may be considered for a handful of students who may not otherwise be admitted.

Do you need to apply to the Honors program or automatically considered? I know at a few schools my son was admitted to Honors when he got his decision (but it was nothing that we applied to).

Where are out of state admitted students finding information on Purple and Gold? Portal shows the acceptance, but can’t find an acceptance letter or scholarship information. Apologies if already answered.

It was on the portal right under where it says they are admitted.

For first-year admission to Interdisciplinary Honors, you need to apply to the Honors program and write an essay. First-Year Admission | University of Washington Honors Program

Not all students want to do Interdisciplinary Honors, because it can mean additional requirements. Some students coming in with a lot of AP/IB credit may actually prefer not to do this program, because these credits can’t be used towards the Honors program requirements. OOS Daugther Waitlisted but she had applied to CS Direct major. But the waitlist page says - * Students on the waitlist are not considered for direct admission programs.

So Does this mean she was rejected for CS? and what are they waitlisting her for?

That probably means that they are waitlisting her for pre-sciences.

Oh, her second choice major was Informatics - Information Science.

If you were awarded then its in the acceptance letter. Second paragraph tells you.

If she ends up being accepted into pre-sciences off the waitlist, here is the application information for the Informatics program: Admissions: Current UW Students | Information School | University of Washington

Economics is not a direct admit major, everyone who listed it as their major on their app is admitted as pre-social science. You will need to apply to the major in your 2nd year. It is a constrained major meaning they only accept a certain number of students. This is the biggest downside of UW.

You had to have applied to Honors back in the fall. There are a couple of extra essays. Honors sends out notifications in a few weeks.

We don’t see it. It just says - You requested the following major: Computer Science in the College of Arts and Sciences

Thanks!

Waitlisted students won’t have a Purple & Gold scholarship listed.

I do not know if they award this scholarship to students who are accepted off the waitlist. Not all OOS students receive it. However, even for those who receive it, the dollar value isn’t huge so it doesn’t decrease the OOS cost of attendance very much.

Are you aware of any events such as Open House or Campus Visit days for admitted students? I couldn’t find any on the admissions page. What is the best way to learn more?

Admitted Student Day is April 20: Admitted Student Day – Welcome New Huskies

You can also go to a campus tour on another day if you can’t go on April 20. Visits – Welcome New Huskies

Also, for everyone thinking about attending Admitted Student Day, I will add that it’s very easy to take public transportation to UW from the Seattle airport. My son flew to Seattle for Admitted Student Day by himself last year, and the flights were convenient enough that he could fly in and out the same day (from CA).
