Starting a thread for others that are waitlisted at UW for Fall of 2024.
Does anyone know when the first round of waitlisted kids will be notified?
Do we. know if they consider Letters of Continued interest at UW?
It’ll just be a waiting game. You can pull some dates from prior year threads, but nothing is set in stone with waiting list responses at all. If you registered for the waitlist that’s all there is to do. No letters or anything else.
Admitted students don’t have to respond to UW until 6/1, so settle-in for a potentially long wait. Sorry there’s not better news.
This is one of the WL schools my son is on and he is interested in. June seems very late especially if we don’t receive before school ends for us as we will be out of country in later part of June and part of July.
UW said June but I am hoping they will start having a better idea later in May when many other schools have deadlines and if they don’t choose UW they will withdraw.
Does anyone know how housing works if you get off the waitlist in late summer? I am assuming those kids would have the last pick of whatever housing is still available?
If you get off the waitlist, housing shouldn’t be a major issue. You may be lower on the priority list, but much of the housing is very comparable and the bigger older mostly-freshmen dorm (McMahon) is just pretty typical of many other college dorms. Just not new like some of the others. It’s also cheaper, so that’s not bad. You can pretty easily see all the campus living options on the website. Many great options.
Does University of Washington accept letters of continued interest or any supplemental material from waitlisted students? I saw a person asking about a letter of continued interest or something for UW waitlist on a Reddit post posted 3 years ago but on the waitlist website, it says it doesn’t accept any additional information.
Is there a system where it’s beneficial to send letters but they don’t tell you explicitly or will they disregard it completely.
also curious about thisl…
Nothing else to submit after you join the waitlist. Discussed above. Just a waiting game. That’s it.
Options was in reference to the on-campus housing discussion above too. Plenty of new dorms and many great options. But gotta clear that waitlist first!
Just a waiting game? Any informed ideas about when the first wave of waitlisted students will be Notified?
Just a waiting game w/b the best way to set expectations I think. Waitlist responses vary wildly year-to-year. A best-guess w/b some could trickle out May and then into June, and they’ll likely close the waitlist completely in June/July, after the 6/1 admitted student deadline when they have a good feel for their numbers. Prior years that deadline was a month earlier (5/1), so that’s another wrinkle that will likely make it a longer and more frustrating waiting game too.
Joining the waiting game…pun intended. We are OOS, SoCal, and UW is my son’s first choice. The acceptance date pushback to 6/1 is painful!
On the portal it says final decisions will be received by 8/1, so it looks like you could potentially find out all the way up until then?
Time to settle in.
Out of state students who applied to the least constrained majors likely have the best shot to get off the waitlist. In-state yields are pretty easy for flagship universities to estimate, so they’d typically get closer to the number they want in the first round. Also, schools would see it as more fiscally important to ensure they have enough out of state students in each freshmen class.
Best of luck all!
I know it’s so early but anyone get off the waitlist yet?
edited, wrong page…
On reddit three people posted that they got off the WL about a month ago. 1 international and 2 OOS…all engineering it seems. Hopefully more will move soon!
These were all grad students I found out, wanted to update! AO said they would start looking at WL in June.
Do you mean based on what they said in the waitlist letter or were you able to speak to an AO?
Spoke to our regional AO.
