University of Wisconsin Class of 2029 Official RD Thread

I have not heard of a second wave. I don’t know if there will be one before a holiday weekend.

Did anyone get in off the waitlist in the first wave for the school of business (oos or in state) because I feel like I haven’t seen a single person get pulled from there.

Just got off the waitlist oos, accepted to the college of letters & sciences as a pre-business major

Did anyone accepted from the first waitlist release get their housing assignment?

Just a warning that Wisconsin takes its time releasing housing assignments and they release decisions in little waves. It was July for my son. He still received one of his top choices, but it seemed like it took FOREVER. At his August 1-2 SOAR, there were still a number of students who hadn’t received their assignment.

Thank you! They did the first main release on Tuesday. It would appear no waitlisted students received assignments and also many students who committed by May 1st did not either. Good to know the remainder come in small releases and that your son got one of his top choices. Telling my daughter that will be reassuring! Appreciate your helpful insights as always!

Some already complaining about dorm assignments. In reality it makes virtually no difference. lol

Hi, do you know if they converted dorm lounges into dorm rooms last year (or last few years)? We just got back from SOAR and we were informed they over-enrolled so if enough people don’t drop out they will have to convert the lounges into dorm rooms (basically adding beds, desk and dressers(?). We were told there will be 4-6 people housed in these.

I don’t remember that happening last year (but I could be wrong). It has happened in the past because I’ve seen videos showing the layout of a lounge converted to a room for 4-5. Madison has become so popular that it’s tough for admissions to predict yield and it creates issues like this. I heard the same thing is happening at the University of Iowa.

I called housing today. They are still releasing dorm assignments - end July/early August seems to be expected timeline for many still unassigned and guaranteed housing. At this time they do not anticipate using lounges as dorms. It has happened in the past and could happen. Assignments might take until close to move-in dates to be confirmed also. It’s frustrating - we are still waiting too. Hang in there! Students accepted in June/July off the waitlist have been waitlisted for housing and told it’s unlikely they will get a dorm and need to go look for housing.

Thank you so much!! The waiting is hard. Waiting to see if he was accepted off the waitlist and then waiting to get a dorm assignment. We are so happy he was accepted and that is the main takeaway. We live in California so we are flying and I have no idea what to purchase for his room (except his necessities). At SOAR, Leopold was open so we could go in and see what the rooms looked like. The student conducting the tour said the lounge had taped up windows in anticipation of converting it into a room. I really hope it doesn’t come to that. Fingers crossed for all who are waiting on a dorm room.

We have had the same journey - waitlisted then accepted now this long wait for a dorm room. We live in Texas so big move for us too. We are buying and U-Hauling everything we know will be needed regardless of dorm specifics. Fingers crossed for dorm assignment news for us all soon!

Wow. So you are driving? How long will it take? Yes, fingers and toes crossed! This is just another added layer of stress on this waitlist journey. We just keep telling ourselves how exciting it is he is going in the fall! We are only packing up things he needs. I feel we can’t buy any microwaves, shelving, futons, etc. until we know what the roommates are bringing.

No, we are flying! But using U-Haul’s college shipping service. They pick up from home and deliver to your dorm on move-in day. Figure local stores will be out of supplies on arrival like bedding and mattress toppers!

My daughter heard yesterday from a friend she made at SOAR who will be living in Chadbourne. Her friend received an email notification that students living in Chadbourne will not have access to lounge and kitchen areas as they will be used as dorms. They converted Chadbourne lounge areas last year.
