Do you think there is any chance they release tmr?
That would be so amazing!
Maybe we call and ask them?? Anyone, anyone?
I will lose my mind if the reason they got done with EA ahead of schedule is that they deferred 50+% of the applicant pool! LOL Seriously though, please donât let this be a flood of deferrals.
I just popped on the UWM admissions website for the first time in a long time. The RD deadline is Monday. So maybe they wrapped up EA so they can enjoy one weekend before diving back in?
How much better are the chances to get in for an Instate student vs an out of state?
Rumor has it that lots of kids get deferred EA, but then are admitted later, once they start to get some kids going to other schools.
I believe Iâve read that they defer a lot of OOS initially, but I donât have any data other than my daughterâs school where it seems like they defer, then accept, a lot of the applicants who are very qualified.
Iâve actually heard the opposite. That once youâre deferred or waitlisted, itâs a lot harder to get in because they donât take many.
My rumor is from Madison? Who knows right, we are ok with getting a deferral over here.
They do defer a lot of kids and then accept them. I think they defer more out of state students compared to instate, but I could be wrong. I wish they would just release them already.
I know this probably does not mean anything and I am just overthinking but in the scholarship hub, there is now an application for me to apply to the letters and science honors program, which was not there before.
I have heard the same about deferrals with a fair amount of later admits for both Wisconsin and Michigan. Not just CC sources.
Itâs a great way to improve your yields by deferring a lot and then see who is still interested.
Can you share where this specifically is within the hub?
Yes, I clicked on âMy Applicationsâ at the top of the page and then there is a button that says âRecommended Opportunities Submittedâ and then I clicked on that and scrolled down and there it was. I think you have to fill out their general application form to get the scholarship recommendations, but I could be wrong.
I have a kid that was accepted EA for fall 2019 and another kid that accepted EA last year. I also help kids in the midwest with college related stuff at times and just have followed closely.
Yield snuck up on UW Madison over a number of years. They had record breaking size classes like 3 years in a row (2019, 2020,2021). Last year they used a lot more deferral during EA. Not to make their yield percentage better IMO. To control their final class size better. Last yearâs freshman class (fall 2023) was actually smaller than the previous years class. They hadnât use wait list much at all in the immediate years prior, but last year they used it some. Some other public flagships have used this strategy as well.
I also donât think the acceptance rate of UW Madison is particularly meaningful if you are applying OOS from a state/area with a high number of applicants or for a popular major. Like MN and IL admission is harder for sure, probably metros of CA, NY, NJ, TX as well. Business, engineering, CS, STEM.
I also get the sense that UW really reads and uses that âWhy UW essayâ. I think they are good at detecting a toss off application.
Ah, got it. My daughter hasnât filled out the general application yet. Iâm not sure I remember seeing that in there, but it was probably there. Looks like the deadline isnât until August.
My guess is like most schools this year with the proliferation of applications from the common app they will defer a ton more from early admissions, and admit far fewer like most schools are doing
Portal astrology idea: student jobs? It says this on there, I canât login
Mine doesnât have me login it just redirects me to UW-Madison page and then to click on âStudent Jobsâ
