Wisconsin is smaller business school. Visit if possible to decide which is a better fit for your son.
Do you want to live in the city - or more suburban.
Theyâre both fine.
IU is rated higher overall - but that doesnât necessarily relate to outcomesâŠespecially in marketing.
For marketing, IU shows a mean salary of $67K and median of $65K.
I donât see a by major salary at Wisconsin but the average of $68,400. You can expect marketing to be lower.
Honestly, I think you should choose the one with the best environmentâŠespecially given the major and that the student is international so likely not staying.
PS - another posted noted size. Itâs smaller than Kelley but not small - in 2023, it had 651 direct admits and 250 pre bus upperclassman.
Good luck.
Love the table. Really supports the theory that those reporting on CC arenât representative of the overall applicant pool. The average SAT score of those posting is around 1500, which is in the top 2% of all test takers and well above average at even some elite national schools. Something to keep in mind as we try to draw conclusions based on data posted here.
What else is on the studentâs list? Good luck.
Appreciate the posting - it helps everyone to see the various outcomes with stats.
Another thing to add. If he is interested in exploring other areas( perhaps a minor in Music) then that can be a tie breaker. I believe, IUâs music school is highly rated but not sure if they offer minors.
Good point - I didnât see.
IU has minors. Wisconsin - hard to tell. But they have classes open to non-majors.
Also, people are much less likely to jump online to report a rejection than they are to report better news.
Apparently, Wisconsin admits by school, not by major. Students admitted to L&S need to meet certain requirements to declare for CS. The bar is pretty low. Just two courses. See below.
Contrary to what many believe, students are not admitted directly into the CS major. Students will spend time as a non-declared student while they work towards the major declaration requirements outlined below. Students can declare the CS major as soon as they have satisfied those major declaration requirements, which will take most students two semesters.
The requirements to declare the CS major are as follows:
- Completion of COMP SCI 300 and (MATH 222 or 276)
- Grade of BC or higher in an introductory programming course (COMP SCI 300, 354, or 400)
taken at UW-Madison - 2.250 GPA or higher in the first attempt of the following courses: COMP SCI 300 and (MATH
222 or 276)
Once these requirements are met, students must fill out an online major declaration form.
YepâŠexactly!
brilliant!
Looks like Tableau?
which i believe was 75th percentile in UW-Madisonâs last common data set
(though only 18% of first year pop submitted SAT vs 38% for ACT )
DS24 accepted OOS to Letters & Sciences/Geography Major - 1300 SAT submitted, 3.85 GPA (W), 6 APs. Part time job 2 years. Limited ECs but strong demonstrated interest in major.
Uppss⊠I was mistaken for grade BC req, I thought B.
The bar is pretty low. Just two courses.
This is exactly what my son looks for as he is not into research stuff. He has been working as a rotational intern (part time) for the past two years. He prefers to do business analyst/project management.
Congrats!
Any dates for admitted student days?
For the table maker:
D24 rejected
OOS
3.6 GPA
29 ACT
Lots of ECs
S24 deferred
OOS
3.9 GPA
1370 SAT
Mid level ECs
Deferred OOS
3.6 TO, small private school where 4.0 is rare
(3.8 junior year)
Marketing or Communication Arts
Strong ECs with leadership roles
Solid essays/recs
Accepted OOS
4.0 W/ 4.87 W

love the chart
DD24 OOS - deferred
Philosophy/ Psych applicant
Close to 4.0+ GPA (2 different schools and systems and grading so dont have a fixed #
TO
8 APs / tons of leadership and ECs, multi lingual
DD22 is a current sophomore at UWMadisonâŠso i feel DD24 will get in in March but annoying to be deffered at Madison and Michigan (but in at UIUC for psych which is apparently super competitive for admitance?!)
Last year UIUC admitted 45% across the school. Itâs 45.5% in the A&S school when accounting for first choice major. The #s below are what the school published for last three years in A&S.
I cannot imagine, given the student interests, that thereâs a discernible outcome difference at any of the three or many other solid, large state flagships. For psych and philosophy, many will end up in grad school of course work is possible but for most in these fields, high paid employment might be a tougher thing to attain.
From an academic POV, nothing wrong with UIUC and itâs certainly a reasonable outcome for someone who hoped for Michigan and certainly on par with Wisconsin.
Good luck.
