As long as you stick to just submitting template you should be fine…

Not an expert, but just as a human, if I put myself in the shoes of an AO/Reader (who’s reading 100s, if not 1000s of these), I’d like for the applicant to stick to facts, and sound genuinely interested (not begging) in attending.

We’re going to emphasize continued interest, academic rigor and performance, significant ECs… not sure how many characters we’ll use, but nowhere near 3000.

DD did an initial draft last night, landing at about 1500; tells me anything over looks like she’d be force fitting trivial details, which will take focus away from what she really wants them to read. Just her POV, and I don’t disagree.

Different approach here than michigan…. Here they are really stressing grades, and mention ECs.

My belief is Michigan does look for consistent academic rigor & performance, but that “fit” will be the differentiator at this point.

Yes, they’ve been VERY explicit about the importance of mid-term grades for deferral decisions. That’s part of the reason we don’t want to blow up the subjective details beyond really key updates.

Overall, for wisc, my guess is the comments get a quick scan, if anything

Our private college counselor said not to bother with LOCI for Wisconsin but to definitely submit for Michigan - further validating that Wisconsin is really based on mid year grades.

I’d agree, in gen’l… but not taking it as far as not using the comments at all.

Really hate it when colleges can’t be clear and upfront about what matters to them: like Michigan is saying, LOCi is optional, even though it really isn’t based on consensus here.
Many colleges will keep some of their essays optional and claim it won’t impact decision, while in reality it does.
Using reverse psychology to confuse simpleton kids who don’t have access to private counseling is pathetic.

do you know if deferred decisions will come out all at once? or will they be random at different times?

Don’t know… you might check the 2024 thread

thank you!

Deferred students are now part of the Regular Decision pool and will be notified as per that process. Last year it was all at once.

Waitlist decisions came out in batches.

Thanks

Does anyone know approximately how many deferred students end up getting accepted

About half.

Has anyone been able to access the housing portal? I am admitted but it still shows a login error.

So while getting into housing is theorized as Portal Astrology for admittance; getting admitted is not Portal Astrology for housing success. Sounds about right.

It takes about two business days to access housing after being admitted. If it wasn’t working by Friday, I’m guessing you’ll have access Monday.
