Do admitted students need to self report mid-year grades?

Yes

This is funny and it kind of made our Saturday night. After denying my daughter, UW has requested her to update her mid-year grades. LOL. I can’t wait to call them on Monday and find out if they accidentally rejected her. Doubt it.

And regarding the apps portal astrology. D25 had 93 apps, including housing, and was rejected. I would not say that apps are relevant for portal astrology. They probably add them as they update what is generally available to students. Mrleo, because you are international (I think) it is good of you to stay on top of the housing thing. Back in the day, and this was long long ago, even OOS students had a harder time securing university housing. It may be different now but be vigilant.

The thing is, I have UCSD coming mid march. So I don’t think I can do anything until then. Right??

That’s really weird. Yeah - I’d call. I’m sorry your daughter was denied.

I think that’s correct unless you would be okay forfeiting both your university and your housing deposit later on. It’s going to be difficult to gain acceptance to UCSD OOS for anyone. It is highly sought after in California because of population dynamics. But dig deep and look through the course catalog, and talk to some students there. You might decide not to wait.

just received a mail which says
“Whether you submit your contract, advance payment, and preferences immediately or you wait until May 1, you have the same chances as all other students at being assigned anywhere on or off your preference lists.”
so I think I should be fine?

You might wish to review some of the private housing options too. There are many near campus.

Im pretty sure that I will go for on campus housing because of how social they can be. As I am an international student, I would love to make some friends as soon as I get my chance haha!

This is true! My kid committed in the last days before May 1 and got his first choice housing. Housing is guarenteed to freshman who have their application and deposit in by May 1. I would definitely recommend living in a dorm the first year.

ETA - lots of people don’t get their first (second or third) housing choice, I don’t want to give the impression if only you get your application in you can live anywhere. Just that your odds are all even for all students with housing applications in before the deadline. My kid’s first choice was an LLC, maybe it wasn’t as requested that year.

My kid was admitted off the waitlist after the housing deadline and still got his third choice (Witte).

I would love to have some advice on the dorms on campus as I am basically seeing mixed reviews everywhere haha

How are the admitted student tours? With only two big event days, it’s going to be hard to make it to one. If your student hasn’t visited Madison yet, are the regular admit tours (2 hours) enough or should you try to arrange something else with admissions?

How many applications did Wisconsin get this year? Fall 2025

I have the same question. D25 is admitted to Industrial Engineering. I am trying to combine Purdue and Wisconsin visits since it’s a long trip from CA. We will only be able to make the shorter admitted students tour. Are we missing a lot? We also signed up for a Prospective Engineering Student session that seems to align with our dates.

Have you looked at the virtual sessions? We’re not planning to visit right away but signed up for the two virtual sessions right away.

Yes, we signed up for a virtual session this week. Hopefully, it will be informative.

My son stayed in the refurbished, and now fancy IMO, Witte Hall for music camp. It was really nice but on the more urban side of campus. The double rooms seemed large and had a separate closet/changing area. The Lakeshore dorms are in a prettier area right on Lake Mendota, but they are older if that matters to you.
