University of Wisconsin Early Action Fall 2025 Admissions

Ivy’s going to be hit as well… a lot of federal funding goes into those institutions for research. They’re also (mostly) private institutions, so if their bottom line is affected and they control the demand, they’ll raise their tuition as well.

Speaking as someone who has a graduating senior at an Ivy, we are already paying the equivalent of buying a new luxury car every year and driving it off a cliff. It has been a WONDERFUL experience for our daughter, but the pricetag hurts. Especially with no merit aid.

Or, bought a house and then burned it down… self-insured

Their merit is getting accepted

Any idea on acceptance rate of deferrals? What was his major?

Hi! Congrats to your son! (Is he a badger or did he go elsewhere?)
When you say admitted before RD, did he receive like a one-off acceptance/admitted separate from the RD batch that was released? Or did you hear of others from EA that were accepted early? If so, what a fantastic unexpected surprise!

Hoping for this for deferrals too. We are waiting on yay or nay for UW. Although my kid is already heavily leaning for another option. He just wants to wait for UW before he commits.

Would anyone have insights into Wisconsin’s Engineering Mechanics - Aerospace Option vs. others schools’ Aerospace Engineering (AE) programs?

Our S25 was accepted to this program along with AE at some peer schools. We’re worried about the commitment to the curriculum and research/internship opportunities.

We’ll be visiting campus from OOS come March! We heard from family nearby that it is worth the drive.

Have you used the search bar above yet?

Might be useful to start a separate thread

Same. Need to have all the options before commiting.

I haven’t seen much comparing Wisconsin aerospace to other schools, to be honest. I considered starting a new thread but noticed that the main school boards don’t get much traffic. Since this is an applicant decision, I thought others might find it useful here as well.

I do have a Badger! I don’t think it was a one-off, I’m not sure how many they took off the EA deferred list, but he did receive his acceptance before the regular decision release date. Best of luck!

Amazing! What a joyous notification to have received.

@OR1 I had asked my son to review this thread as well. for me, it was actually good and folks with ‘good idea’ have discussed. thank you for sharing this thread.

My pleasure, glad it helped.

congratulations! When did he receive his acceptance? I thought they all went out at the same time.

My son didn’t hear back, I was responding to @NJmom31 whose student heard a few years ago before the RD release date. (And manifesting the same for this year, lol.)

I have sniffed through the Wisconsin threads for past few years, and didn’t find any EA deferral who reported an acceptance ahead of RD decision; of course this is a microcosm of a broader pool, but just saying.
The only interesting exception was one parent who reported last year that when they went to the portal to withdraw the application for their deferred kid on Feb 7th, their status was updated as Admitted; they hadn’t receive any email notification until that point.

Yeah, until @NJmom31 mentioned what had happened with her student, I had not heard or read anything of the sort. I thought it might have been a one-off or an unusual major or something, but sounds like in 2023 there were a number of EA deferrals who did hear ahead of the RD release. Now this little tidbit will have us asking our students [compulsively] to check their portals!

Exactly.
When they say before RD dates, any idea how early? A few days to a week won’t make a significant difference.

February 7th is really freakin’ early! But getting anything ahead of the RD release date would mean an acceptance (as that would be awful if they notified anyone ahead of the RD release date that they have been denied! – imagine?). So just having something in the portal early would alleviate that stressed out feeling they get sitting there ready to click on the decision, so scared to click because until that moment, there is hope.

On another note, I’ve learned from my son that there were students in his HS (OOS) that had perfect scores, 15 APs, perfect GPAs that UW denied EA. Unbelievable. I didn’t think schools like UW were into yield-protection and denying extremely high stat kids. One of the students denied had UW as his first choice. What a year.

That Feb 7th case is really an exception, and given the timing so close to the EA release date, was likely an admit that they goofed up initially. Who knows the status was updated immediately after they first checked it.

Regarding the high stats kids getting rejected straightaway, I really don’t know what to say anymore. It must be so heartbreaking for these kids.
