The extreme warmth in the eastern 2/3 of the U.S. frightens me. I grew up in NY and a warm El Niño Christmas used to be about 45 degrees. It would never be 50 degrees or higher, never! Climate change is turning the whole country Into the Midwest, with extreme and unpredictable weather.
I’m in the south now, and it’s in the upper 70s, rainy and humid. Ick, it was nicer and cooler last month.
I have my air conditioning on! We also had a thunderstorm last night, unheard of this time of year. And we also found out the hard way that our generator isn’t working, we lost power for 3 hours last night.
weather sure seems to be much more extreme and definitely warming, hard to get too excited about it given the general direction this seems to be heading
Breaking records here in SC. There is a point where it’s too warm - expect 79 today. My festive clothes are too warms for this. 60s I would be fine with. Normal for this time is high 50s. However I can deal with heat (yes I had to turn on ac upstairs) but I am really sick of rain. It really hasn’t dried out since floods in Oct and very heavy rain yesterday has to be painful reminder for those I know who are out of their homes this holiday season.
^^ Was out last night doing last-minute shopping with my D who is home on break from Carolina. We are in Philadelphia suburbs where typically it’s 30-40 degrees now, but last night it was in the 60’s and raining hard (70+ today). I asked if the weather reminder her of SC and she asked quite seriously, “Because it’s warm or because it’s raining?” The weather may not be seasonal here but it could be so much worse.
Just heard that after some record heat in North Texas today and tomorrow, we are going to get some cold weather Sunday into Monday, with snow possible. Lol. D1 is just going to miss it, as she heads back east on Sunday.
We just took dogs on a long walk. Everyone is outside. Bikers, runners, walkers, kids playing. I did have to turn the heat on because it’s much colder inside the house than outside. As soon as it warms up I’ll turn it off.
One of the things I do love here is how, the minute the cold weather changes to a little warmer, people are out. It seems they value spring in the northeast more than the fabled fall colors.
Unfortunately, I did see a mosquito in the house, the other day. Got him, but ugh, in December?
In the NY metro area. It’s about 70 degrees out with off and on drizzle and rain. Golfers are out, runners, bikers. Short sleeve shirts and I turned the whole heating/AC system off today. I don’t mind this at all!
I am so tired of the dark gloomy foggy wet warm … I was thinking how nice it would be to have a little “severe clear” – cold, dry, blue skies – even if we can’t have snow.
We spent much of last night in the basement, checking the weather warnings. The meteorologists can’t catch a break. They try to advise caution without being inflammatory, and get criticized no matter what the outcome. We were among the lucky ones. Today we’re running the A/C and dehumidifiers, and are thankful the time spent preparing yesterday was “wasted.”
In New Orleans here, maybe a little further west than most of you, it is sunny now! A nice, low, winter sun that comes easily into all the windows. Hopefully all the east can enjoy that tomorrow. We are forecast to have a foggy Christmas.
