It’s warmer outside than in our house, so we opened all the windows!
We are cranking up the A/C so we can have a fire long enough to burn the yule log (the trunk of last year’s Christmas tree).
@3scoutsmom, I actually am considering cranking the AC to make it cold enough inside for our gas log fireplace tomorrow morning. That seems incredibly “wasteful” from several points of view, but I keep telling myself it’s a special occasion.
So sorry - 36 degrees and raining here north of Seattle.
They confirmed that it was a tornado a mile from me. First tornado EVER in December in Michigan.
Luckily, no one hurt but considerable property damage and lots of people without power for the holidays
I read that in the news Romani. Crazy.
Well thanks to this crazy weather the masonary part of our front stoop got done today. The remainder of the work can be done in cold. I really questioned starting this work at the beginning of December in the upstate NE. But the weather was on our side. The mason had to do a lot of stone work today. The 65% temp. and dry day was ideal. A great Christmas present.
Yes we did turn on our AC in Maryland this morning. CRAZY. My son’s girlfriend is from a tropical climate and was hoping for a snowy Christmas. Oh well.
71 degrees and humid in MD. Just weird.
While I appreciate the ease of travel, I am getting nervous that I am going to have to pull the lawn mower back out. Northern Illinois here.
Yes- 10 or more degrees above normal in Tampa- weather like PlantMom’s post #17. Endless summer here in Florida, by my standards. But, while the rainy season is over I sure wanted '70’s so I can be outside without sweating. We set the temp at 78-79 and summers the air conditioner keeps the indoor humidity down. But now the A/C isn’t kicking in as often so the humidity rises- and I bump it the temp lower to dry things out. The expression “it’s the humidity, not the heat” applies for comfort. Screened lanai useful as mosquitos are endless.
A week ago we had low temps- blink and you missed the cooler weather. Highs over 80 will continue the rest of the year (one more week). Talked to friends/relatives in various parts of Wisconsin. The grass is still green! And they’ve had 3 snowfalls in southern WI so far. One part of up north I found depressing was most of the trees losing their leaves, or being brown (one kind of oak- never remembered if it was our red or white oaks- that drop leaves in the spring) and brown grass. That is why snow covering the ground is pretty.
I’ll wear shorts/T-shirts/sandals down into the 60’s, going long evenings only. At least all of the holiday vacationers are getting hot, summery weather- their pool tolerance is better than mine now. Plus- it’s been dry the past month or two, we’re losing our 20+ inches above normal rainfall earlier this year to less than 20" for the year. We’re supposed to have delightful temps now to make up for summer’s heat and humidity.
The weather in southern NJ was just too warm for me today. 75 degrees inside with windows and doors open and cooking was brutal. My hair looks like it is August…
Last night was really wild in Dallas. We had rented out a suite at AA Center to watch the Mavs play the Bulls. We were hosting 18 people, and D2 and friends went downtown early to eat dinner before the game. Right as we were due to leave our house, sirens were screaming, there were multiple reports on the news of tornadoes. They started tracking a “large wedge tornado” that was on course to hit downtown, where D2 was headed for dinner, as well as the AA Center. Per usual, DH didn’t see even one teensy reason to worry, and thought it was silly to even consider letting weather change our plans. He wanted to leave and travel right into the path of this storm because we were hosting and had a lot of money invested in this evening. It really irks me when he acts like I’m being ridiculous to even consider the possibility that something bad could happen.
D2 said that when they arrived at the restaurant, they were told they were evacuating. I don’t know where they expected everyone to go, but since their crew had tx, they went on over to the AA center, which seems to be a pretty sturdy building.
At home, the minute it appeared that the storm had shifted east of downtown, we all headed to the game. Sirens still shrieking, but we were NOT going to miss the tip off.
All went well, but so far they are counting 11 people dead. I think 8 of them occurred when a tornado threw a bunch of cars off the George Bush Freeway overpass onto the ground below. I wondered if these people were of the same mind as DH or if they even knew there was an approaching twister.
Lots of homes are destroyed, as well as churches and businesses. Our neighborhood was unscathed.
And the Mavs beat the Bulls…

I’m glad you were all OK, Nrdsb4. I followed all that on the news and it looked terrible.
Thanks, MOWC. I think they are saying we had 11 tornadoes in the area last night.
41F here in California. It seems that we were delivered wrong weather. It was around 70th last December.
Wow, that sounds scary!
The high temperature in Portland, Maine on Christmas was 62 - a record for the day.
That is just horrible…those poor poor people. I hate these random, tragic events…people just going about their day. my husband does the same thing from time to time. I usually give in, but every so often I put my for down and don’t care if he fumes…those times involve the kids safety. Why do they think nothing is ever going to hapoen?
@Nrdsb4, very glad you and yours are ok.
Leaving mid 50’s here in upstate NY to fly back to Florida (my mom took a terrible tumble and is in the hospital.) Weather looks to be much nicer then when I was there at beginning of the month. Silver lining.
It was high 70’s and kind of swampy here in Atlanta on Christmas. I can’t remember it being this warm in December since the early 90s. I don’t mind it at all-I moved from Boston to escape the cold long ago. We cranked the a/c’s and watched a fireplace on tv rather than running the actual fireplace.
I was planning on flying with older dd up to MA in early January so she could understand what real cold feels like (several of her maybe colleges are in the northeast), but my relative are like, don’t do it, we have the windows open here!
Last year they were like, don’t do it, we have 12 foot snow banks.
We are from socal and ironically, for the first time ever, DD went to the east coast to enjoy her first white Christmas. She told me yesterday, “mom, it’s 74 degrees, so peeved.” Can’t wait until she opens up her Christmas gift, heated earmuffs haha
